When I lived in North Oakland, this would happen to me all the time. I'd never see the tickets and only got notices in the mail after they'd gone up twice. I just got used to searching my license plate on their website every week.
I don't know what happened to the tickets but I do see all the time that tickets on under the windshield wiper in front of the passenger side. This means you're never going to see it anyways. I think this is a tactic used for the very reason of compounded fees. Who the hell looks at the rightmost point of the passenger side for a ticket? Welcome to Pittsburgh.

Better than New York. I got cited for "Unsafe Lane Change" because the guy ahead of me as I merged into a lane swerved the other day. When I was a good ten or fifteen feet behind him

The hearing lasted maybe 30 seconds...all late fees were dropped. I wasn't even late for work.

I had serious issues with parking tickets in Pgh for about 5 years. I'd regularly rack up a few hundred in tix then get a boot, and repeat the cycle. Partially this was the fault of my idiot ex who would hide tickets and forget them. Though, partially we were having a really good time and would regularly lose my car while on a multiday bender. The secret is to learn all of the loading zones and stuff. Murray Ave used to hurt me pretty bad. That loading zone in front of the Deli was usually good overnight or for a short stop at Giant Eagle. The street cleaning tickets were a bitch too.

I've ALWAYS got money for wings. Seriously though, I need to buy a kitchen table and mags/mag-pouches for IPSC, so I wasn't looking forward to throwing money out the window for nothing.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but five or so years ago, my sister-in-law got a $3 parking ticket. She didn't know at the time that she received it, as she never saw it on the car. Four months later, my brother answered his doorbell to find a woman wearing painted on jeans, a suggestive top, and too much makeup, demanding to see his wife. My brother asked what it was all about, and the woman said she was there to take my SIL to the magistrate. Puzzled, my brother asked who she was. Instead of answering his question, the woman again demanded in a more forceful and nasty tone to see my SIL. My brother started to get a little hot under the collar and again asked her who she was. She responded that she was a constable. My brother asked for her ID, and instead, she asked him who he was. Becoming angry, my bro told her that he wasn't turning over his wife to someone without ID and a reason why. The woman reluctantly showed my brother her ID and also some paperwork that showed that the $3 ticket was now an $11 ticket. Before my bro could respond, my SIL came to the door, and the constable told her she was coming with her to see the magistrate right now. They were both puzzled. My bro asked the constable if she had to take her at that moment because their 4yr old was admitted to the hospital and they were just home to quickly pick up what was needed and run back to the hospital. The constable said they could pay her and have a court date mailed to them. My brother said he would certainly pay it, but the constable said they would have to pay $99. So he paid it to her and she went on her way. Upon hearing the matter, Magistrate Albert threw the whole thing out. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but it's ridiculous that a constable would come to take you away over a parking ticket. It's even more ridiculous that a constable, dressed unprofessionally, wouldn't show ID before demanding to take someone away.

I know the situation was resolved but figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. I don't know if this was the case here, but anytime you receive a ticket try to make sure that the ticket was legitimate based on the date and the location. I had an incident this past year, which I posted here about. I wrongly received a parking ticket in the mail for my vehicle for a place that I was not at on the day/time when the ticket was written. All it took to get it resolved was writing a letter to the magistrate explaining that I was not in the location at the time and that it was a mistake...how this doesn't get abused I have no idea..but it worked.
