Default Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt, USMC

Quote:
There should be consequences for smearing our troops. CNS reports:
The parents of a U.S. Marine accused of killing three Iraqis execution-style in Haditha in late 2005 said Thursday they would ask Congress to censure Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) for saying that the Marines “overreacted” during the incident and killed civilians “in cold blood.”
“It’s too late for an apology,” Darryl Sharratt of Canonsburg, Pa., told Cybercast News Service after the hearing officer in the case, Lt. Col. Paul Ware, released an 18-page report recommending that all charges against Sharratt’s son, Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt, be dismissed because his actions “were in accord with the rules of engagement and use of force.”
Sharratt said that he, his wife Theresa and other supporters of their 22-year-old son were planning to visit Martha’s office, and “we’re going to ask for more than an apology.”
“We need this man censured by our Congress,” he said, because “he denied my son — and the other Marines involved — their constitutional rights to a fair trial and a presumption of innocence.”
“This is what we’ve been fighting for in Iraq,” Sharratt added. “This is what we’ve been fighting for — what soldiers and Marines have been dying for — for the past 200 years.”

Yet Murtha gets reelected time after time. The thing that really kills me is that he has completely forgotten what it was like to wear a uniform and he wore his, supposedly with pride, for a whole lot longer than I wore mine. 37 years in the Corps and he works daily to embarass anyone who is now, or ever has been in uniform.

Ah yes. ABSCAM. But, really, he didn't take any money, he only told them he might if the first deal went the way he thought it should. Yet he still retains that seat. I have to wonder about that part of the state, sounds like they're trying to be little philly or little pitt.

Yeah, I grew up near Johnstown, I moved away before I started to follow politics and I can't imagine why the folks back there support that ass.
Fear of change, maybe? Do liberal rednecks truly exist? I'm stumped. (and embarrassed to call that area my home!)

Default murder charged DROPPED

Murder charges against a US Marine accused of killing three Iraqi civilians during an alleged massacre in Haditha two years ago have been dropped, the military said on Thursday.

A statement released by the Marines at their Camp Pendleton base in southern California revealed that three charges of unpremeditated murder against Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt had been withdrawn.

The decision was announced in a written ruling from the commander Lieutenant General James Mattis and followed a recommendation from an investigator last month that the charges should be dropped.

“An independent Article 32 investigating officer has considered all the facts and determined that the evidence does not support a referral to court-martial for Lance Corporal Sharratt,” Mattis wrote.

“Based on my review of all the evidence in this case and considering the recommendation of the Article 32 officer, I have dismissed the charges.”
Sharratt was accused of shooting three Iraqi men execution-style in what prosecutors alleged was part of a rampage that left 24 civilians dead following the death of a Marine in a roadside bomb in November 2005.

Sharratt said the men were shot at close quarters as Marines cleared a house where insurgents were believed to be operating.

In a statement recommending the charges be dropped released last month, investigator Lieutenant Colonel Paul Ware said the prosecution charges were “unsupported by the independent evidence.”

“To believe the government version of facts is to disregard clear and convincing evidence to the contrary,” Ware added.

I may be wrong but isn't the point of war to kill the enemy? its ok for them to behead us and send the tape home to the family of the dead but we cant kill them? war and politics never match up

You know, I keep hearing how there are no "ex", or "Former" Marines, but most Marines I've spoken to are very happy to disown Murtha.

That Marine is a VICTIM and is owed an apology by MANY people. I offer one as a citizen who feels powerless with a govt system that is out of control.

I find it disgraceful when innocent people are persecuted by the govt/ Police because the system frankly just isnt FAIR. Sure he was FINALLY absolved of wrongdoing BUT his good name was dragged through the mud for years. Police/prosecutors arent really interested in finding TRUTH...just trying to get some assine charge to stick regardless of whose life they ruin.

"Innocent until proven guilty" has truly been replaced by "Guilty until proven innocent!"
