Default Re: Remington 710 Opinions?

It's a LOT easier to customize a 700 action versus the 710. Shoot enough chucks and you'll start pushing some distance. Pretty soon, you'll need an aftermarket trigger, stock, etc.....

Default Gun on lay-a-way!

Well, I did it. I went to the Army Navy and asked for a 7mm mag. He brought out a beautiful Remington 700 with a 9-12x BSA scope. The bolt action was a smooth as a prom queens thighs but not quite as dangerous.

I fondled a 710 and the bolt was jittery and rough...I figured I'd pass. The 700 is used, but it is in mint condition. I bagged it for $389...but it is on lay-a-way, so I won't have it for at least a few weeks.

Thanks for the advice, I think I done good!

This isn't the one I am getting, but it is very similar. 700 SPS with BSA scope and sling. I didn't notice if it has the detachable mag or not (SPS DM) Doesn't matter to me either way.

The SPS stock should be replaced and I wouldn't bother with BSA optics. Buy cheap and you will end up replacing everything down the line. No one I know wants to dump a lot of money on optics and firearms, but you do get what you pay for at times. You will end up spending more money down the road, so buy the right gear the first time.

Understood, but it will give me a good platform to customize down the road. Right now, I need a rifle to put a hole in a deer at 100 yards...not to put 6 holes in a microdot at 600 yards!

It should do that nicely. I have a BSA on my father's 7STW that has been solid for the last two years depite the recoil.

If it isn't broke, just run it. If it doesn't group well, experiment with barrel shims or by free floating the barrel with some sand paper. That should get you to 1 moa on most efforts.
