Default C&R Rifles

Could anyone suggest a good source of curio and relic bolt action rifles?

imo unless you really know what you are looking for you will get ripped off on gun broker. i would recommend "gunboards" instead. it is a good forum for research and to buy and sell C&R rifles.

Allen's Armory is a sponsor on gunboards, and I have had a positive experience with him.

also, there is a company that often brings J&G Sales items to the KOP gun show, which is nice b/c you are getting the rifles for J&G's internet prices, but you can inspect them and also not have to pay shipping. J&G is ok but it takes them forever to ship imo. and pay for the hand select.

R Guns has good prices and selection, but make sure you know exactly what you want b/c they are dicks on the phone when you call to order

friend of mine used to order a lot from Classic Arms but they are under new ownership so i don't know...

i've also found some good deals at Cabela's but you need to know what you are looking at or you will end up with a bubba-fied C&R not worth the paperwork fee

Empire Arms. Allen's Armory and a few other smaller operations are extremely reputable and do not "oversell" their items. Unless you know what you are doing, be very careful buying at gun shows, including K of P (where I have picked up a couple of Lee Enfield's and excellent buys in revolvers over the years, but I do have a reasonable knowledge of UK military arms).

A subscription to "Shotgun News" is a worthwhile investment and join a variety of fora that are aligned with your particular interest. As mentioned earlier, unless you really know your stuff, do not buy on internet auction operations; generally they are nothing but rip-off artists, particularly with C&R weapons, as there are no uniform standards for presenting information on what can best be described as "the quality" of the weapon.

For rifles and pistols, Empire Arms probably has the best described and photographed weapons. They are not cheap, but descriptions are accurate and worth buying. Dennis is a sponsor on Gunboards and a few days spent browsing will be worth a lot of time and money NOT wasted. I might add I have close to 40 C&R weapons of various types and buy "carefully". Am I missing something on Classic Arms? They usually only ever have like 2 or 3 types of C&R weapons. Do you have to click on anything to see more?

I've used J&G Sales to buy a Mosin Nagant. I'd like to buy more stuff but I don't have much money
