Something else I just thought of (in the shower, I think best there)

I can write BUT I'm not all that. I will need someone (or a few people) that can help write different sections of the site. Namely a memorial, maybe a bio and who knows what other pages ... so all you English majors, your talents are needed.

I would really like to make this a sensitive, fitting tribute that will stand the test of time (in other words something gun rights people and sympathetic people will still come to once the press coverage stops). There is no reason this site (and Meleanie) can't be a rallying cry for years to come, all while people help out her children.

And don't get me wrong, I am NOT saying we should use her death as a way to 'gather the troops', not at all. What I am saying is that Meleanie brought the whole OC issue into the national view (and really she did) while being a loving mother, only to befall this horrible tragedy. We need to have people remember her, who she was and what she believed in BUT most of all we need people to remember there are 4 children that will need help for many years to come .... THAT is the primary focus.

A strong woman who stood up for what she believed in and in the process brought so many of us together even closer. We will use what we learned from you in continuing to contribute to the cause. I'd really like to see some sort of annual fundraiser event , sort of like the ABC Memorial Classic Golf Tournament to benefit XYZ group . It doesnt have to be golf , I'd actually hope it would be a shooting related event , maybe a clays tourney or something ?

Besides a fund for the kids , perhaps sponsoring a domestic violence shelter or some sort of scholarship fund for a student that most embodies the ideals the Meleanie exhibited and cherished ? Fighting for rights , Pro 2A etc ?

I know its trying to spread things all over the place , Im really just spitballin to see what sticks . Maybe some sort of Pro 2A womans group ? A group that helps teach women and empower them to be their own best defenders ?

Sorry if Im rambling a bit , I took a couple Percs after pulling my back getting the baby furniture unloaded , unpacked and set up today .

All very good ideas and NO you are NOT 'rambling' I was thinking just now about an annual 'thing' to make sure Meleanie (and her children) are not forgotten ... this is something WE (and I mean WE) MUST keep up with for years to come ... any thing less would be a sin (that from an atheist).

And I completely agree with something for a woman's shelter, or something that helps out battered women or victims of domestic abuse, there is a greater call here and I honestly don't think Meleanie would mind our taking this personal cause and taking it to a point where we are helping out ANY woman in 'need'.

There is NO reason any woman should live in live in fear, no reason any woman should be afraid to ask for help ... this too can be a 'rallying cry' for Meleanie's site. Even if we have to add a secondary donations section that benefits women's shelters or help centers I honestly don't think it would not be 'in the spirit of Meleanie'

Despite being downsized, I've been awfully busy...but I will gladly try to carve out room to help. I'll be honest, though...I didn't know her well. I have written a large speech for a friend who was killed in Iraq, so I have *some* experience with this type of writing.

That said, I'll help any way I can, whether it is coming up with the initial writing or proofreading.

Those who knew her very well should determine the physical layout of the site. How many pages? What will each page contain? How will the navigation flow from page to page? Once that's determined, I can start writing.

I think it would be incredibly helpful to use a chat room or instant message software to have a "meeting" to discuss this. Posting back and forth in a forum is too disjointed. Weekday mornings work very well for me. Afternoons are okay. Nights are usually quite busy with meetings or class.

Let me know...

My thoughts - for what they might be worth:

A video montage of the highlights of Meleanie's life, loves and involvement with music and voiceover leading up to and including the tragic ending....then moving to shots of her wonderful kids. It should be an emotional appeal, dramatic. It is first and foremost a marketing tool, hopefully with style and grace. It should ring people's guts out, just like this has done to all of us....but for a noble cause.

I know this is probably really reaching for the stars but I'll toss it out there anyway . Given the National reach of Meleanie's story , could the 2A Community /OC community as a whole across the Country raise enough donations to actually buy or build ( maybe building ala Habitat for Humanity like would be cheaper ) a Womens Shelter named after Meleanie ?

Thats one of the most visible and enduring tributes I can think of. I cant imagine there arent other groups or wealthy donors somewhere out there that would write a check for a significant amount.
