To the forum at large: Is there an online mechanism we can use to facilitate this without having to feed the people who are against us? Grapeshot raises a good point.
They are anti-gun, but as a fellow member of VCDL said, "Like using PayPal, I get a warm feeling using an anti-gun organization to transfer funds for gun-positive activities." There may be other warm and fuzzy contributors. Just let me know and I will pass it on.

Maybe the Credit Union itself can accept electronic deposits to that particular account number?

For those who use electronic banking/bill payment from your own bank, you probably could make that credit union account number a "payee" and make a "payment" (donation) that way

Would take a few extra minutes to set up, but that way PayPal loses out and Melainie's kids win

PayPal does not charge any fee for "personal" transfers of funds, and only skims the percentage off of credit/debit card transactions that are done outside of "personal" transfers.

PayPal is fast, secure, and there is the added bonus of using them at no cost to either payor or recipient to fund a gun-positive issue via an anti-gun organization.

And, no, using the account number for an e-bank transaction will not work. The payment has to be made to the Credit Union, and the account number would be inserted just as a billing account number. I am not aware of financial institutions accepting fund transfers in such a manner. They need an account name, account number and all the rest of the bells & whistles.

The person designated as the PayPal recipient merely sweeps up the moneys in the PayPal account and transfers them into the trust fund account which was designated to PayPal as a bank account.

That's incorrect. From the PayPal site:
Quote:
Receiving money – Personal payments:

It's free to receive money from friends or family in the U.S. when they send the money from the PayPal website using their PayPal balance or their bank account.

If you receive a personal payment made from a debit card or credit card, the sender has the option to pay the fee or pass it on to you.

If the fee is passed to you, it is 2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you receive. For example, if you are sent $100.00 USD by credit card, the fee would be $3.20 USD ($2.90 + $0.30).
Some may be confusing the difference between a "Personal Account" with PP, and a "personal transfer". If the transfer is directly between PP accounts or between bank account and PP account, there are no fees. However, if a debit or credit card is used, fees apply regardless of what type of PP account you have.

I plan to contact Belco tomorrow and inquire if there is any way to make a direct electronic deposit. I suspect if there is, it will require a credit card type transaction, rather than a direct transfer from a donor's account to the trust fund. I'll report back what I learn.

After making some inquiries up the chain, Ms. Witwer confirmed that there is no way to electronically make a contribution for non-Belco customers.

If anyone absolutely cannot send cash or a check to Belco, they can send it to my own PayPal account and I will forward the monies on to Belco. Please be sure to include a note with the transaction as to what it is for, since I use this same account for personal ebay transactions and various PAOC transactions. Please remember that if you do not transfer directly from your bank account, or another PP account, there will be fees collected by PP.

just posting in here that I would like to be involved with the website design. I've been doing this stuff professionally for almost 10 years. My expertise lies in the creative art and design phase so I could build some layouts in photoshop to be sliced and diced by a developer like DC.

Hopefully we can discuss details at the memorial shoot.
