I'm with the "lock yer damn house already!" crew.

Sure, you shouldn't get mugged, but if you keep wearing fancy watches and walking down bad alleys, I can't feel sorry for you the fourth time it happens.

The first thing I thought when reading this article was, what an idiot. Doesn't lock his doors or windows and then spends all of this money on a high tech security system that he patiently sits and monitors waiting for this one guy to show up?

He gives gun owners a bad name. Seriously. Just waiting for trouble and doing nothing preventative (like locking the doors and windows) to deter the criminal.

Then recklessly fires random rounds into the night?

Anybody know if criminal charges were filed against him?

So between the cops (who will do nothing) and the homeowner (who will do the wrong thing)....looks like the only one with any sense is the robber. Not only did he steal an armload of guns, he did it while the homeowner was watching him on the video system HE forced the homeowner to buy.

So not only is the jackass homeowner firing shots into the night, he just populated the streets with illegal firearms by not securing them.

I predict the robber will retire after the 9th break in...which is roughly when the homeowner will bait him by cashing out his life savings and leaving it on his porch, then promptly falling asleep.

Nobody deserves to be robbed, but this gentleman needs to get it through his head that times have changed and doors require LOCKING to keep asshat burglers out.

That being said, after being robbed 3 times I think it'd be worth staying up one night, maybe attaching the bayonet to the mosin and hiding behind the couch

I stand by what I said. He got burglarized THREE times, yet he still refuses to lock his doors and windows.

That's just stupid and moronic, any way you look at it. There is not much debate here on this.
I'll debate it. Locks are for keeping honest people honest. Anyone with reasonable brain capacity can get through a typicall door easilly. Lock a window? They can just smash the window! I personally lock everything and I'm a big believer in alarm systems that or ON when IM HOME!!! Becase that's when I really really want to know someone broke in..

Now everyone knows that he leaves his doors and windows unlocked and that he has firearms in the home - all they have to do his wait for him to leave and steal whatever they want

Sure, but he isn't even making an effort to deter the criminal. His door is unlocked. And being that he has been burglarized 3 times before...Which he says is the same guy...but how do we know? Maybe it is just 3 previous opportunists?

Not even making it difficult for the guy is almost like condoning it. And publicly saying, I don't lock my doors is inviting more people to just walk right in.

I agree, nobody deserves to be robbed, but he needs to get with the times. You can't go around shooting randomly in the night. That kind of crap didn't even fly in most "wild west" cities.

Had he shot the theif, this surely wouldn't sit well with a jury.

And icing on the cake, the security system (with the homeowner home) didn't prevent his guns from being stolen.

Cost of security system: $500
Stolen computer: $600
Stolen cell phones: $200
Stolen cash: $$$$$

Cost to lock your doors: Free

Yea this guy should be locking his stuff up. The burglar obviously sees this house as easy pickings.

The only possible explanation is the altitude. Perhaps the thin air has caused a perpetual state of hypoxia for the homeowner and he is suffering from a cognitive impairment.

Seriously, buying a surveillance system BEFORE locking your doors? That is a little but like putting in furniture and drywall before building the roof.
