Wow. What can I add that hasn't already been said. Rest in Peace, Meleanie. You and your children are in our thoughts and prayers.
Many of us knew that there were problems for a long time. Many here knew or suspected that their domestic issues were the driving impetus for her interest in guns. Many of us here advised her to leave him and offered her places to stay, and help. This is not in any way to disparage Meleanie, but rather to point out to any and all women in bad domestic situations; you need to get out, get out now. Before it turns into a tragedy. Meleanie was a great person, mother, activist, advocate, and spokeswoman, and I am proud to say that I knew her. I guess when I get home tonight I'll look through all my saved PMs, and e mails, and reminisce.

This morning I got to wake up next to my wife, I got to have another cup of coffee, I got to see the moon still in the morning sky — in short, because of God's grace, I got to live a little more. Meleanie, if you'll forgive the small riff on Trainspotting, chose life, and her husband, unfortunately, did not.

I never met her but we had an extensive PM discussion about gifted children with ADHD. Something we had in common.
She was a bright, articulate woman who cared very much for her children. That was obvious from her posts and messages. Unfortunately, there will always be those people that are so controlling that death is better than loss. Domestic violence murder/suicides will always be a part of the human condition. I agree with sentiment that we should not try and counter the vultures out there turning this into a gun control issue. They are not worthy of the effort. I do agree with JayBell in that "he was a law enforcement officer" is all that needs to be said. Even in the most ideal world of the antis where only law enforcement and military have weapons---SHE WOULD HAVE DIED. It's a sad day. Give your family a hug and remember what is important. |

That will conveniently be overlooked/ omitted and the fact our friend was a victim of domestic abuse will also be glossed over/ ignored, just to further their agenda. And that kills me more than most anything else.
