Default Young newbie looking for advice

Well I guess I should start this off by saying that I'm 16 years old, 18 in a year and a half. I'll be getting a K98 Mauser in the fall for reenacting, but I'd like to get into starget shooting when I'm 18. I know a little bit about guns, but I'd really like info on how they work, how to maintain them, ammunition, reloading, etc. Basically I'm looking for all the basic info any of you guys can spare. Anything you guys have is appreciated, thanks!

Do you drive? You can always join Mike and I at our gun club. I have a few firearms you can try out. You will become addicted to shooting, once you get started. I'll PM you my cell number.

well, i'll leave it to your father to be the judge, but your 16, i was target shooting when i was 7. With proper supervision i don't see the problem. Plus, you're within a short distance from the range i go to and membership is a miniscule $25/year for the entire family.

i'd suggest trying to find a relative or close family friend or someone who's into it to try to help you get your feet in the water, or hang around the forum for a few years, and when u hit 18 start coming to our group shoots. theres just so many aspects of shooting theres no place to even start explaining really. don't let that change your mind on getting into shooting, you'll get the hang of it it just takes time like any hobby, and nothing beats first hand experience with a knowledgeable gun person

If I were you, I would start with the NRA Basic Rifle and NRA Basic Pistol courses. They are an ideal place for beginners to start.

Are there any NRA Instructors near Harleysville reading this thread? If so, can you help this young man out?

This link will help you find the closest NRA course:

+1 on that. The NRA First Steps class would be excellent for a young man like yourself. Learn the right way from the beginning (unlike alot of us who learned the wrong way).

XD, NRA education and NRA ILA are two separate entities. Save the bashing for the latter and I will gladly join in.
