Default RELOADERS! EPA Proposes Ban on Lead Wheel Weights

...among other things. You KNOW whats next. Entire release here:

http://yosemite.epa.gov/opa/admpress...d!OpenDocument

EPA will also pursue a ban on the manufacture and distribution of lead tire weights in response to a 2009 petition from the Ecology Center, the Sierra Club and other NGOs requesting that the agency establish regulations prohibiting the manufacture, processing, and distribution of lead tire weights. Lead weights are used predominately in the tire replacement market to balance tires of autos and light trucks in the United States. They can fall off tires and then break down and contaminate soil, wash into sewers, or end up being transported to municipal landfills or incinerators. EPA estimates that 2,000 tons of lead from tire weights are lost from vehicles and ultimately end up in the environment each year. Tire weights without lead are already being used and can be effectively substituted

Didn't the lead start out in the environment, in the first place?

So ummm, have the greatest minds figured out how to "BAN" a natural occuring element, LEAD? I mean, it aint like lead is manufactured like ummm, plastic, its a natural occuring element. Are these folks truly this stupid? Lead paint? Had no idea that lead paint was till used. Thought it was banned like 30 years ago...hmmm, the children theme again...protect the children!!!!

Please sign the attached petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide."

This insidious chemical can be fond everywhere, and is even sold in its natural state for consumption by humans. It has a number of dangerous attributes:

  • it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
  • it is a major component in acid rain
  • it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
  • accidental inhalation can kill you
  • it contributes to erosion
  • it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
  • it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

This substance is frequently referred to by its common name:

WATER

2000 tons? Really? Those things are not heavy at all. I know I've never, ever lost one in 20 years of driving. But people are losing them to the score of 2000 tons each year?!?!?

I'm calling BS on this. Talk about hype and fear mongering!

I dont even believe the majority of large OTR fleet vehicles use anything other than liquid or other dynamic balancing/cooling systems any longer. Even airsoft BBs can balance a wheel and tire better than the lead weights.

the largest vectors of human lead poisoning remain old paint and leaded sealed tin cans.
