i didn't think they'd break, i don't think glock would put a trigger on a weapon that would break. it's just a matter of how it feels. it just feels solid.

i have nothing against the glocks. like ford and chevy, everyone has his own preferences.

Its funny I used a Glock 21 under the worst conditions and never had a problem with its plastic parts. Unlikie my M9 I used as an MP in Iraq. Glock are a superior weapon all around. IMHO

i never said that the plastic parts were inferior or prone to breakage. i just said i didn't like how they felt. why do people have to read that as a knock to their brand?

superior to what specifically? the torture test on the xd was just as thorough and intense. i have nothing against the glocks, i don't feel they're inferior, but i find it laughable and comical that people can just make blanket statements like "the glock is superior all around" when in fact, other firearms have areas where they are equal to or superior than the glock. there are trade offs in everything. there are areas where the glock is superior to some weapons and there are others who posses performance or reliability characteristics that are superior to the glock. as in cars, you typically give up on your acceleration to gain a higher top speed, and you visa versa. you give up a soft ride with a stiffer suspension for better handling.

there would be a lot less flame and brand wars over this and everything else if people we're willing to accept that their particular brands are not perfect and above and beyond everything else.

people compare the polymer-framed guns to the glocks because glock was the first. sure, they are reliable, solid firearms, and they've earned themselves a reputation.d

Actually H&K was the first with their VZ series pistols.

I have shot the G21, XD45. I am a Glock fan. Have been for many years. I do not like the G21! It's too big and bulky. I want to be able to conceal a gun with moderate change to my wardrobe not go and get a whole new one. I will say this about the G21... It is accurate. For me it rates right up there with my CQB and P220. The XD45 was definitely an eye opener. Fit and finish were great. Accuracy was up there (First time ever firing one and I was getting about 2-3" groups at 25 yards from someone elses gun.) The grip size was amazing. It was extremely comfortable in the hand and the natural point of the weapon was amazing. I do not like the loaded chamber indicator nor do I like the grip safety. IMHO the only gun that should have a grip safety is a 1911. (Why? I don't know. Why is a lemon yellow?) If I had a choice for the G21 or the XD45 I would definitely choose the XD hands down.

i guess i'm confused as to why you wouldn't want any gun to have a grip safety. the trigger "safety" to me simply isn't enough. i'm picking up 4" compact xd45 this week. the compact has the shortened grip and the selling point for me was that i can get three fingers around the grip plus the trigger finger even on the shortened grip. it's not the smallest gun out there, but i am not a fan of shooting the subcompacts where i can only get two fingers around it.

Thumbs up Re: Glock 21 vs SA XD.45 Tactical

First off - new member, so hello all!

XD 45, for all of the reasons listed by others. I own one and chose it over the Glock 21 when I went to purchase. I really like the double safeties (trigger and grip).

I have huge hands and long fingers but found the Glock 21 too bulky for my mits. Felt like a Coke can with a barrel attached. I was fortunate enough to shoot the Glock 21SF, the new slimmer 21 with a rail, at Philadelphia Archery and Gun Club's "Glock Day" (that was fun!), and found it to be a nice handgun, very accurate, and comfy in the hand...... but I would still buy my XD 45!

I have a Glock 21. It is, indeed, very big. It's not something I would use for CC. I don't have an XD-45 but I do have an XD-40 and they are a bit smaller than the XD-45.

I like the features on my XD. The firing pin indicator and loaded chamber indicator are AWESOME. The grip safety is very cool too. The trigger on my XD-40 is MUCH more solid than on my Glock 21. The trigger and trigger safety feel much better on my XD.

I love both of my guns but the Glock 21 might be going out the door soon as it's too big for CC.
