Default For The First Time

I shot a large caliber rifle for my first time: my German K98k Mauser, and my AK-WASR.

Pulling the trigger was frightening for the first shot with each gun, because I was worried that the chamber might explode.

With each gun I was surprised I hit the target at 50 yards, and especially with my mauser. That thing gives you a hard jab in the shoulder, and I had a thin t-shirt on. The AK gave me a wide spread high group, but the sight is horrible. It takes up almost the whole target. I can't wait till I get it scoped. With my mauser I had a tall, but surprisingly narrow group of about 3.5 inches wide. I was not shooting for accuracy. I was shooting for the joy of recoil.

Firing my first big caliber rifle to me is a big move in life.

Congrats! Addicting, isn't it? I've only had my taste of big bores at our group shoots, but am considering a pump shotgun instead of a bolt rifle for my first non-pea shooter. You should go for the 50 next

Plan on any mods to the AK?

Congrats here too!....I have been enjoying my milsurp bolt actions a lot lately myself...keep her tight in the shoulder and learn to use your sling if you have one.

I still want to look at that .308 Enfield of yours...I found my headspace gauges.
