Default Non-firearm section

Could we have a non-firearm section to discuss things like knives, swords, ninja stars and all the other kick ass non-firearm self defense tools as well?

Just a thought.

This pretty much hits it.

We are focused on firearms. If you want to talk about things unrelated to firearms, do it in the lounge.

One thing that may help alleviate some of the call for additional sub-forums might be the creation of general subject threads.

I participate in a technical computer forum that has a pretty active "off-topic" community in their Lounge. There is a common practice over there of starting threads on general topics in the Lounge, that serve as a catch-all for a particular topic. This is useful for when there is sufficient interest in a topic that you don't want it generating too many individual threads, but can't have a dedicated sub-forum for the topic.

I actually participate in a firearms specific thread over there. They weren't going to create a gun sub-forum on a technical computer web-site. So that thread became the go-to thread for firearms enthusiasts.

There is already some precedent for this kind of thing here. There is the "Gun Babe" thread in the Lounge. You don't make a new thread every time you want to post a "gun babe", just just add it to that thread.

The idea works because it's self-regulating. You don't need moderators or staff to step in and setup anything special. If there is sufficient interest in the topic, it will stay on the first one or two pages by people participating. And if there isn't it will fall away into obscurity.
