AK Headspacing
I'm just curious about the headspace on AKs (7.62X39): is it safe to fire one without it first being checked by a field gage?
BTW the gages cost over 50 smackers so I'm guess that they're on pretty low demand & supply, because no one bothers to.

It's not safe if you're building one. The headspace is set by how far the barrel is pressed into the front trunion. Too far and the round won't chamber. Not far enough and headspace will be excessive.
If you're just buying a rifle off the shelf, then there's no need to check headspace.

Well it's military surplus, but defiantly not from scratch so alright...! I'm taking mine to the range tomorrow.
