Default AK quick acquisition scope

I picked up an MTK-83 Bulgarian side mount for my AK for a nice price. I was wondering if I should just keep my irons or put something on this mount. It is kind of tall over the gun, I can clearly see the irons below it.

I was talking with a marine friend who recommended a 10x scope.

Basically I am looking for something I don't need to maintain (no batteries) that will enhance my ability to hit targets at 100 yards whilst not losing the ability to quickly acquire multiple targets.

A paper target at 100 yards is only a few times bigger than my front post and this poses something of a problem when trying to hit it.

ACOG's?

TA11 (3.5x)or TA31 (4x)

A lot of people think you don't need magnification for just shooting out to 100 yards but I like having it anyway. With these low power scopes you can reach out to greater distances while still being able to make hits somewhat quickly on closer in targets (just not as quick as red dots, but then you lose your magnification)

I am going to suggest for you a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x

you get to choose no magnification for up close or you can adjust it out to 4x magnification which is decent for shooting at 100 and maybe even 200 yards.

This is the best setup on the market. Ultimak rail and Aimpoint Micro T1. Here is a few pics...

Here it is on my SGL 20

Here it is action on my Arsenal SAM 7 Carbine. I was hitting a 3" piece of steel with it.

I have it on a .308 AR and it's holding up well so far. I love the fact that you can illuminate the reticle in low light situations. The OP states he's on a budget(poor) so $2-300.00 more may not be an option.

True... in my head I was comparing it against a $1,200 ACOG which would still be way cheaper.

Well 240 isn't THAT bad of a price.

So if its 1-4x, does that mean if I am standing at 100 yards I could see the target as if I was standing at 25 yards at 4x power?

Is that model more of a scope or red dot, would you say? I mean this as far as quickly acquiring targets vs hiding in a tree somewhere and sniping....which my gun would not excel at.

It's both, at 1x you have the same magnification of a non magnified red dot and is great for quick target aquisition but you can crank it up to 4x to help you with distance shots. It's meant to bridge the gap between red dots and scopes. That is as best as I can put it but maybe someone with a little better tactical application knowledge will chime in.
