Default UPPER DARBY COPS SLAUGHTER DEER

a deer (70lb button buck) gets hit on bishop ave in westbrook park yesterday afternoon at 3pm the deer walks behind my house in the back alley, three cop cars pull up and one cop shoots the deer twice in the neck with a 22 rifle. the deer hobbles away, half of his leg hanging by a tendon, beds down on a neighbors patio. the cops follow it and shoot it two or three more times in the neck. 3:30 pm the deer gets up and walks to the school yard right as the school lets out. the cops chase it for another fifteen minutes, the deer beds down behind the alley again, cops just stand there waiting for it to bleed to death. 4pm, i ask the cop why he doesnt shoot it in the head, he said a 22 will ricochet of its head. i look at him and say what are you using 22 shorts, he said no 22 longs. long story short, it took 90 minutes for the poor thing to die it was a total disgrace what they did to that deer. the question i have is will a 22 long penetrate a deer skull at 40' broad side? and why dont these cops have some kind of training in animal control because we do have alot of deer getting hit by cars on bishop ave. i guess im upset about the way they shot up the deer and had know knowledge on how to take a deer down with one shot. i have quite a few 22's and i know they do some damage to harder objects at a much greater distance. let me hear your input......

That is BS...if you are going to take down game...the person doing the shooting needs to know what he/she is doing in order to kill the animal quick and clean. One head shot should have done the job on a whitetail. Large pigs can be taken with one shot behind the head. Some slaughter houses use 22LR to take down cows as well, so saying a headshot isn't enough it just wrong. It would take so much longer for an animal to bleed out with a 22LR. The PGC uses suppressed 22 Mags to reduce deer populations, so a rimfire can definately kill humanly.

A 40gr CCI Velocitor would have taken the deer without any issues.

And people complain about hunters taking game... hunters have way more respect for wildlife than these guys had. And I second XD45s question, where's the service pistol? Once they had the animal down, they could have easily ended it with a pistol. Would have been way less agonizing for the animal than a .22LR.

They could have used one of their shotguns instead of that damn 22.

What frigging morons!

I sure hope the Game Commission cites them. LOL Because if I remember correctly, only a GC Officer or a licensed vet can put "game" animal down legally. All other persons are supposed to "let nature take it's course".

I have put a hit deer down FOR a cop with my suppressed 22 Ruger, and 1 round of Reminton subsonic in the brainpan at 5 feet of distance.
instant death.

those cops apparently could not shoot....22lr WILL kill a dear dead, why do you think poachers use them for headshots.

I live in Upper Darby Township, what I want to know is why the cops were shooting the deer when UD has a full time Animal Warden, or is his job to just harass little old ladies walking their non tagged dogs.

my in laws used to raise their own beef. once a year they would butcher a cow. i was told that the brother in law had a ruger 22/22mag revolver. he always put the cow down with 1 shot to the brain with the 22.

the local cops here got into hot water a few years ago. they were called to a house where they found a snapping turtle. they shot it. in the middle of the town.

if you or i did that we would be up on charges.
