i had something like this happen to me near club 40, my cousins old lady was on her way to pick me up late one night (1 am'ish) she hit 2 deer at the same time, she speeds to my house screaming and crying,. so i call the fuzz and tell em to meet me at club 40 if they didnt want me to finish off the deer myself. well im standing there, middle of winter when the pull up, next thing i know i have a gun drawn on me screaming about my hands in my pockets. that part i understand. so we show them where the deer were, one was dear, the other was crying. so the one cop starts interrogating her and while shes standing there 5 foot from the deer in tears the other cop draws his pistol and shoots the deer right in the head, no big deal cept for the now insane screaming girl splattered with blood. well they start with me"what am i doing out at 1am with my cousins woman" "wheres my drug stash" "how many drinks did we have" i looked at him and flipped out "I CALLED YOU"and i went on a rant about shooting a gun with no warning next to us without eyes and ears, are they gonna pay for the clothes shes wearing covered in blood spots when i said i think i want badge #s they let us go, still followed us to her house, all the way too not just along the main road. i was a lil mad
but at least they finished off the deer quick

I'm so glad I live in the boonies. Wait for a cop or game warden to finish off a deer? Hah! Out here it's do-it-yourself or it doesn't get done at all. No firearm? Carry a big, sharp knife in the car/truck just for that purpose. And, if the deer's in good shape after the impact, you can take to carcass home.
Yes, doing in Bambi all by yourself is illegal, but.... |

im a boonies guy too but the deer were in someones front yard at 1 in the morning , plus i never figured it would turn into a 2 hour interrogation

Last September my wife, sister-in-law and I were in the car in the evening on 322 in Delaware County and I saw two state troopers standing over a buck that'd been hit, and just as I pointed it out to them, one of the troopers raised his service pistol and double-tapped it. I tried not to laugh as my sister-in-law, a PETA-sympathizer, started to cry. I tried to explain to her that the deer was already dead, he just ended its life w/less suffering...
But I'd rather see it done "for sure" than a crippled deer getting shot with a 22. That's ridiculous. But hey, Upper Darby's the same PD that didn't have control over its confiscated weapons. And would confiscate them during domestic calls and never give them back (unless they sold them back to a gun shop). You U/D residents should be concerned! |

I myself have put down many of deer within my jurisdiction. One or two rounds from a .45 gets the job done. Several of my officers have also had to put deer down, all with a sidearm. No need to use the shotgun or rifle we also carry.
I don't imagine too many UD LEO's have much experience with putting down deer. |

In their eyes, letting the deer bleed to death is a lesser evil than firing a hand gun in a populated neighborhood.
A deer can not get an attorney for injury or damage due to a misplaced shot. Imagine someone shooting a shotgun between houses and some old lady has a vapor lock. Our taxes would be buying some attorney a new beemer with that case. Give these guys a break, they are probably not trained nor equipped for this type of mission and didn't want to be there in the first place. A good question was asked earlier, where were the game wardens? They are the ones that are supposed to carry frangible ammo for this situation. |

I guess it could have been worse...
Cop refuses to shoot deer, transportation worker beats it with shovel.
