The 22 is also shot at the base of the skull where it is the thinest and almost nonexistent. I'm not sure that a 22 could penetrate a cow skull forehead where it is thickest from a distance but I could be wrong. Considering the difference in skull thickness between the deer and the cow I'm sure they could have easily put this poor creature out of its misery much sooner than they did.

why were they using that when you know they have either a 12ga or AR15 in the car? The point of putting the deer down is to be humane.

It sounds more like torture than slaughter. Letting an animal suffer like that for that length of time is utterly inhumane.

I'm inclined to think no one's possibly that stupid.... though I've been wrong before.

Maybe there was a reg that forbids them to use anything bigger then a .22 to put down animals?

This thread is hilarious!

I feel sorry for the deer. Don't get me wrong. I'm firmly opposed to making animals suffer any longer than absolutely necessary. The hilarity comes from this thread because if only the anti-hunters, PETA and the like could see this thread.

Here you have mass outrage at inhumane treatment of an animal and it's not on PETA's website or a Op-Ed or a blog, it's on a firearm owners forum.

Sorry, just had to express my observation.

I understand how on the surface it seems contradictory, even funny, that hunters would care about the treatment of animals.

However, it makes perfect sense to me, and I'm not even a hunter. IMHO hunters are as concerned, if not MORE concerned about the welfare of animals than others, because without the game in question there would be no hunting. I don't know for sure, but I'd wager that hunters put more money into wildlife conservation and land preservation than any other group in America, including PETA.

the cop told me they aren't allowed to use anything bigger than a .22 that sounds like bull shit. i asked the cop, cant you just use your glock? he turned and stared at me for what it seemed like ten minutes with this your an asshole look on his face. so i just turned and walked away. im not bashing the cops so before any leo's get pissed at this thread im just wondering why they dont have some kind of training for this situation. in my honest opinion i think every cop should take a hunters safety course and learn how to put down an animal the humane way. just my opinion..
