But, just to be clear, it is not necessary for the references to fill out that form. You can provide all of that info and the references need not even be aware of it.

That's the way I thought it should be, but why do they have the bold print on that particular app. that says SIGNATURE REQUIRED? Are they just trying to trip you up to eliminate a few??

On the current form. SP 4-127 (5-2006), which all Sheriffs are supposed to be using, there is no mention of signatures in the References Section. |

You can fill them out yourself. That's how it works here. This is why I am getting so angry with all this crap. Many of the Sherriff's depts, it would seem, have taken liberties to change the form.

A current copy of the form used by Chester County is attached here.
You'll note two things on the Chester County letter of instruction:

The problem is, until someone takes him to court over it and he has to explain why HIS rules are different from the rest of the state....he isn't going to give a crap.

Anyway I also was declined at first because on thier application they pointed out that they didnt need signatures for your witnesses, they wanted legible PRINTED names. I took it back to work, had my witnesses PRINT their names on a new application and went back, got my permit in about 10 minutes after that and they were polite and pleasant about the whole thing, even when pointing out that they wanted printed names not signatures. Must have either hired a new clerk or he was having a really bad daywhen your wife went in. Ive since sent several people from work up and warned everyone ahead of time about PRINTING the witnesses names and not a ones had a problem getting right in and out. Just my $.02
