The show aired tonight and I saw it. It was very good. It's clearly pro 2nd Amendment but without any political posturing.
It also kind of shatters most of the anti-gun stereotypes. Most anti's assume that anybody who is pro-gun is either a criminal or a toothless redneck that beats his wife. The customers profiled in this episode were: An older couple, the wife was a former probation officer A church pastor A young, asian-american, female construction company owner Several late 20's-early 40's regular guys A woman named Chris, who hustles the shopkeeper in a trap shooting competition when she makes it known that she was the first female NRA certified expert shooter in rifle, pistol and shotgun. A hispanic family that is considering buying a gun from home protection A shop owner who's shop is located in the middle of a gang war and is being encouraged by law enforcement to arm himself Additionally, the show takes a few minutes to focus on people bringing kids into the shop and the shopkeeper interacting with them. The general warm-fuzzy cute kids kind of thing. Personally, I love the fact that the show demonstrates the diversity of the gun community. That really shuts down a lot of the anti-gun political arguments that get thrown around. I will be hunting down contact information for the Showtime network. They deserve some praise for developing a program like this. Interestingly, I was thinking about cancelling my premium channel subscriptions to save a little money. I will now still be cancelling HBO, but not Showtime.

I wish they showed more about the guy looking at the garand instead of it being just a filler scene... probably nothing interesting if they didn't show more of it.

I watched last night's episode and I noticed something that pissed me off. Despite asking customers to aim at the duck or asking them not to point guns at him, Josh (the host) on more than one occasion pointed guns at customers. In one scene he was holding a revolver with a laser sight and while he was talking to the couple who had been attacked by bears, he's got the laser on and pointed right at the husband's crotch. That's just plain unacceptable.
Also, I noticed that most of the times whenever Josh handed someone a gun he checked to make sure it wasn't loaded. This is a good thing. However, most of the time the customer did not check the chamber to make sure it wasn't loaded. This is contrary to the way I was taught and the way I've taught my wife. I don't care if the person handing me a gun just stuck my nose into the empty chamber, as soon as that gun is in my hands I open it up to make sure that it's not loaded. He should be encouraging customers to see with their own eyes that the gun isn't loaded. But even he doesn't do that. In the first episode, when he was talking to the Hispanic family about getting a gun for grandma and he decided to take a picture with all of them holding guns, he handed each of them guns without ever checking the chamber. It's an interesting show, but there are things about it that are just plain irritating. |

I watched the first two episodes finally (DVR).
I am thoroughly disgusted. This idiot is why gun dealers get a bad name. Don't get me wrong, I've seen worse, but this guy is very unprofessional, unacceptable safety practices and full of bad info. That's the short list.

I have to agree. I had higher hopes based on what was previewed. It's chock full of nothing, and doesn't seem to be showing anything that supports actual responsible gun ownership. It's sound bites with nacho cheese.
