I do believe (and very much hope) that he can just give you the gun and that's the end of the story. I say this because that's how I got my K98, but IANAL.

That is correct, there is no paperwork involved in the transfer of a long arm between private parties ib PA. There is no law that says that any money has to exchange hands for the transfer of something.
The handgun of course, as you stated, needs to be transferred through a FFL.
