Is it time for a Tune up at the Gun Smith?

I have about 25,000 rounds through my XD-40 (My Carry Pistol) and I while it's still working perfectly in every way (I'm near OCDish in my cleanings) I started to wonder if I should take the weapon to a Smith to have him take a look at it for wear and tear..

I did some searching and couldn't find an answer to this specific question. The weapon does feel a bit.. "looser" if you know what I mean.. Not really a bad thing, but It does feel like the spring action on it is less pronounced. Not to mention the trigger pull is significantly lighter then I remember it being when it was new..

I also was wondering if the sights should be re-aligned at the same time.. XD's are still sort of new so I'm not sure about the accuracy over time..

Its never a bad idea to take a heavily used gun, like yours, to a gunsmith and make sure everything is on the up and up.

Do it. Just make sure, if the gunsmith does find a problem or a potential problem, that he literally SHOWS you the problem before you let him fix it.

Just replace the recoil springs and maybe the other springs if you want to be really thorough. Other than that there isn't much to go wrong that you can't see during a routine cleaning. Pistols have considerably fewer moving parts than cars, preventative maintenance on them just consists of lube and springs rather than alignments and brake jobs.

Normal cleanings, lube and maybe a closer inspection for wear should be all it needs. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

Wisdom here. great advice. Change the springs if you're concerned, but I'd check XD Talk first to see where folks have been encountering problems and at what round counts first. Some guns seem to benefit from frequent spring changes (every 5k rounds) while others run like a scalded ape all the way into the tens of thousands. I'd think that 25k is probably a good place to start. I'd look into using Wolf Springs this time instead of OEM though, there are some benefits to going that route if I understand the XD correctly.
