Default Are there any AIR RIFLE people out there??

Just an old fart here wondering if anyone else likes these? I have my Beeman R8 in for a tune up (after 20 years). I hope to get it back soon.

I'm considering buying a new one and have been trying to do my research. I think I've settled on an FX "Cutlas". It offers many of the features I would look to have in a modern unit. At 65, I really don't want a barrel break gun. It gets real tough to do that with a rotator cuff issue that I'm starting to have. Yes I will need a scuba tank,,, as I can't really deal with a hand pump.

Somewhere around the house I have a CO2 tank and an NOS tank (from former racing days). I need to know if these can be used with the PCP rifle. Will the dive shops, air supply vendors will allow these to be used for this application?

I really am looking at German and Swedish air rifles and am not interested in the English ones (puts on flame resistant suit). Yes,,, I'm in the $1500.00 to $1800.00 range with the scope. Scope advise is also appreciated.

All advise is appreciated and gratefully received.

Thanks,

George

Hi! I frequently shoot air guns in my shop, but nothing like the hardware you are talking about purchasing.

You might find some discussion on higher-end PCP rifles here:

Think a sec... You are quite willing to drop two grand on a air rifle, but are trying to skimp a few hundred bucks on your 3300 PSI air vessel? Penny wise, pound foolish IMHO. Buy a new tank at the dive shop you will frequent for air charges. That way you won't have to worry about re-certing the tank for awhile and you will also get in the good graces of the people you will completely depend on to fill your tank.

Are you looking at the synthetic or Walnut stock? Shrouded barrel? I was looking at their web page and the Cutlas is certainly a nice piece of gear.

I agree with DoogieB regarding your tank. I doubt a dive shop would touch it even if it had the correct fittings which it won't. Here is a link that covers all you need to know about dealing with compressed air for your rifle. http://www.pilkguns.com/scubasafety.shtml

I have a CMP Anschutz 8002 air rifle from creedmoor sports. It may not be what you are looking for, but it's a great rifle and I would definitely recommend it. For a tank I found a almost new steel tank with a DIN 300 valve for $100 and it costs me $5 to fill it.

I have Beeman Air Rifles. (R7 & R9 double gold .177) My right shoulder needs replaced as it is bone on bone. I can shoot the R7 all day and it won't bother me. Also as some one told me, and it does work, break the barrel with the other hand/arm. I had not thought about that. (I am not known for my common sense.) If you go to www.straightshooters.com you will be able to see and get what ever you need for what ever you are thinking about.
I am 62 and I enjoy these rifles. The R7 will take out a rabbit or squirel at 25 yards. One shot and they just lay down. These rifles, not just Beeman, are extremely accurate.

Thanks for the replys....Your probably right about the tanks, but I was just inquiring as to not waste this perfect tank. I will be looking into a new tank. The provided links have helped a lot, thanks.

I'll be giving that CMP Anschutz 8002A a closer look also. It's in my price range, thanks.

George

I've got one. It's a RWS. Love shooting it. Great for the crows that come to the feeder.
