I ordered a Glock 26 from Ace in Washington, Pa this week. The salesman was unwilling to hazard a guess at how long it would take to come in. Then i discovered that a friend had ordered a Kimber 1911 in February (i don't know where from), but he's still waiting for it to come in.
I'm wondering if anyone has any information or experiences which could shed some light on how long it might take for this to come in. Thanks in advance to all you gun gurus. |

you can't really compare one brands availability to another, and really you can't compare one shops availability to anothers either. You kinda locked yourself in w/ the preorder so it'll come when it comes, it'd be a total guessing game to try and figure out a wait time for you though.

Depends on his distributor's current stock, pending orders with Glock, and Glock's current stock. It shouldn't be more than a week, unless your dealer is a complete clown. He shouldn't have ordered it for you if he didn't know; Glocks are as common as dirt.
I know this is kind of a locking the barn doors after the horses are gone comment (and I don't mean to be a prick), but it bears consideration for the next time you're in the market for a Glock: don't order Glocks from a retail shop. They're ubiquitous -- any regular Glock dealer should have a pretty good stock of the common models. If he doesn't, just call another shop in the area, it'll be much faster. The Washington area (I assume it's the one that's outside of Pittsburgh) should have 5-10 dealers selling Glocks within 25-30 miles. Or you can order one online and have it shipped to the dealer -- that takes a day or two from any of the major online shops. If you're looking for something unusual, sure, go ahead and order it, but for run of the mine guns? Don't bother.

For a glock 26? Yea, thats a pretty common one.. when I got mine they had a stack of them. Now if you wanted something in a 45 GAP I could potentially see there being a wait. However I feel your pain, I just ordered a 1911 under similar circumstances, couldn't find one I liked anywhere near by.. I probably would have found on eventually if I kept looking... but I already have a few things to take to the range that go bang. I was willing to wait and order exactly what I wanted. Of course.. willing to wait doesn't mean I don't think about it every moment.. but it'll likely be a few weeks/months. Eventually I'll forget about it.. then it'll be a surprise! I like surprises.. well shiny metal ones :-)

On a firearm that's been in production for a long while and are common the gun shop can call various distributors and should have it in his shop in two or three working days.
If it's something that's new, custom shop, or performance center be prepared to wait till the production catches up with demand, or the factory works out the bugs in the production. I could post several examples of long waits but the one I like to use is when SIG first announced it was coming out with a P229 (new model at that time) chambered in the .357 SIG caliber I wanted to be the first kid on my block with one. The order took 6 months for the gun...Then came a 3 to 5 month wait until Federal ammunition was on the dealers shelf (only ammo available). Luckily, I was able to get dies and shell holder for Hornady and worked up loads for this firearm while waiting for Federal. oracle

Why do all these guns have to be ordered? These are common Guns that every Gun shop should have, a Glock 26? Thats strange, i could see a Blackened Kahr.
The Gunshop i shop usually have everything is stock or he'll get it in a cople of day. The only Gun i ever orderd was a Savage rifle in left hand. What kind of stores are those? Mom and POp General Stores? Just Curious. Nyman |

Ever since that huge embezellment scheme about 2 years ago Kimber has not been the same, they havent bounced back yet.
Not to mention that they have lost a lot of dealers, including Weaver's right here in our area who sells a lot of 1911's. Nyman |
