Yeah she mentioned that she had to qualify with her personal sidearm as well as her duty weapon.

Here's a question for you...
I know that as a LEO she doesn't need a LTCF, but what if she wanted to carry a particular gun that she had not qualified with? Could she get a LTCF & then be free to carry anything she wanted to without having to qualify with it first?
Here's my thinking on that question. Say she has only officially qualified with a glock, but one day she wants to carry her .22 buckmark target pistol to the range & she's going to go out for dinner with friends before returning home with the gun... or lets take in to another level & say that she wants to carry her Seecamp one day because she's dressed up for a special occasion and needs the extra level of concealment.

One of the departments motivation behind having you 'qualify' with your personal weapon as well as your duty weapon is basically CYA. If you were involved in a shooting, you are easily able to show that you have been trained in the safe and efficient use of that particular weapon and that your department has 'cleared' you in it's use.

Some departments (none that I know of locally except for PSP) issue both your on duty as well as 'off duty' weapon and the qualification requirements are the same for both. (every 6 months)

Makes perfect sense as a CYA and I see no reason why anyone would not want to qualify or have a problem with the policy, other than if it were written into the policy that you had a limit on the number of weapons you could qualify with or if there were a policy limiting the choices by some other means such as excluding revolvers or anything of a certain caliber etc.

I'd never carry a gun I was not comfortable with...I'd never carry a gun if I didn't first know the laws and understand the responsibility involved... the only difference I see here is that I (or others like me) take it upon myself (ourselves) to seek to "qualify" myself (ourselves) whereas they (LEO) are provided with the training (financed by "US" I might add) and must do it as a part of their job whether they want/feel the need to or not.

Speaking of CYA... make sure you save documentation (reciepts, registrations, etc) when you attend classes & seminars. Just like we hope never to need our sidearm to defend ourself, we should have a file we hope we never need to open to present as part of a defense.

you can blame them for bringing their higher taxes with them. you should see the rates in red lion and southern school districts. the increases are a direct result of the baltimorons who have moved into the area and dramatically increased the school aged population.
