Here's the article in the Inquirer. Not a SINGLE mention of the Vet Tech pulling her own gun...Pathetic!

Here is the link which includes the part about the handgun.

Off-Duty Cop Helps Nab Robbery Suspect

Quote:
The man walked into the front office and demanded money. Veterinarian Steven Radbill says his vet tech told the robber she had cash in her purse. She reached down and pulled out a gun. At first the robber, who had two box cutters, wouldn't back down.
Wouldnt back down = dead.

Thumbs up Re: Anybody Else Watching NBC 10?

Here's the FOX report of it...which sort of explains why the other news outlets may have been avoiding mentioning it. Sounds like she pulled it, and wasn't prepared to use it.

Already posted that about 6 minutes before ya....

Yes it appears she wasnt prepared to use it...hesitation can get you killed. But can we really blame her? How many of us have been in that situation or worse?

I for one wouldn't be upset if I went to my grave without ever pulling a firearm on another human being.

Theory;

Bad guy has two box cutters. On other side of a chest-high counter, woman draws down firearm. Man with box cutters refuses to leave, and woman holds her fire.

In this situation, while many will say she hesitated, and while hesitation can get you killed, hypothetically her hesitation was warranted. It would all depend on just what was between her and the attacker.

A counter/desk, like I've seen in every single vet office I've been to, would keep the BG from having all the key elements necessary fer her to have a justified shoot. While he had ability to do her harm, and intent, any furniture between an attacker with a knife and armed woman would, arguably, prevent him from having opportunity.

Maybe the woman had drawn her personal line, as many of us talk about doing, at that counter. Any attempt to come over or around it would have her put him down.

Also, there might have been people downrange of the target at her current position, making it even more important to hold her fire until the BG offered no alternative.

Drawn in this context, the woman not only acted appropriately, but very intelligently, by keeping her legal liabilities to a minimum without making any sacrifices towards her own safety.

Again, this is only a theory based on incomplete news reports. Given blueprints and photos of the scene, as well as video footage from different angles, showing the whole are, one can make a more exact summation.

Police say the suspect was robbing to support his drug habit.
Can't forget to chalk up all his robbery victims as more casualties in the ongoing war on drugs. Because the huge price premium on drugs that are illegal, he has no legal way to afford or otherwise acquire them and so we get these robberies.

I do find it instructive how poorly the reporters do in reporting the relevant facts.

God forbid we actually place blame on the criminal.

Beat me to the punch...

And it should come as no suprise that local media does a poor job of reporting the facts. I think at the library the Inky is actually in the Fiction/Fantasy section.

I'm all for punishing him for the robberies, I just like to point out that government coercion restricting liberty has a strong nexus here.

The problem with your argument is that you are assuming that should drugs be more readilly available or cheaper this man would have resorted to gainful employment rather than armed robbery.
