Can't run the number because if it's in NCIC as stolen the world comes to an end for the guy who ran it...

I might sort of piggy back on this question.
My FIL has a few pistols that were left to him by his father. He doesn't know anything about the history of the pistols, but is concerned to transfer them to me to get some work done on them for fear that he does not know where his father got them. These are going back a good 40-60 years ago or longer. Is there any way to run the pistols without fear of being nabbed for posessing stolen property or anything? I'm not saying I think the pistols in my FIL's possession are stolen, but not knowing the history that is one of the worst things I can think of.

adymond,
let me start that I am providing no legal advice and only an avenue for further research: Isn't there some sort of legal protection to the heir of an estate in this situation? (under the assumption your in law's father has passed on) Your in law may be able to report the firearms to the sheriff as inherited (along with a death certificate/estate forms etc) and then be 'covered' to have them checked out. Your in law would have to do it, I'd guess.... AGAIN- I do NOT know the actual law about this, just suggesting an avenue to research it further |
