Thanks, I had no idea.
I wouldn't want anyone to get into trouble. What options does a buyer have to check out a pistol?

It keeps everyone from contacting people they know to run numbers for them. I have my NCIC cert., and know a TON of guys who would ask me to run serial numbers, license plates on vehicles because they saw a cute chick, their neighbors who just moved in names', etc. etc. None of which would be worth losing my job over.

Not sure what the problem is here. If they were left to your FIL then he can give them to his daughter (your wife?) and she can give them to you. No paper work required. 40 to 60 year old firearms are nothing to worry about. Too much watching NCIS, etc.

Have him give it to your wife, then have her give them to you. As long as everyone is on the same page, no problems.
Then if you still want to know, start to OC them, eventually you will get questioned by LE and they will check to see if its stolen aginst thier non-existiant registery.

Most Firearms that go thru the FFL are not always checked by the sheriff unless they are registered . IF someone has a stolen gun and they report it or it has been reported stolen, they are likely to be charged with recieving stolen property, best bet is not to buy a firearm unless its sold by a FFL or a gun manufacturer then you have nothing to worry about cuz it will be in their hands, if the gun is stolen not yours, but if you buy it from a private owner and have it transferred at a FFL and it comes back stolen then it goes to the person selling gun. but it dont always come back unless the FFL registers all the guns he sells or transfers.
