Maybe I've been lucky, but I've been treated decent on 2 firearms purchases in the last year or so and probably a half dozen or more supply purchases. Good selection, very good prices. They answered questions and were very patient while my wife tried out the feel of several 380s.
I was pretty miffed that they wanted $15 to mount my scope on the new rifle I purchased there, but other than that, no problems. I still haven't figured out the 380 deal, I won some money and my wife got a new gun. There's something not quite right with that. Dale Last edited by dk99358; May 22nd, 2009 at 10:47 PM. I've never had a problem with the service at Shyda's, but I've always gone in knowing exactly what I want.
As for Backwood Outfitters, the service is ALWAYS top notch. It's a small shop, but well worth the drive to Columbia. |

Shydas offered me 300 dollars on a Para Carry 12 only if it was for a trade on a new firearm. They even tried to be all enthusiastic like I was getting a deal. Tom at Backwoods offered me 649 for it but recommended I put it on consignment to get a little more. It sold for 749 in less than 2 weeks. I know some shops just arent into used guns and some shops thrive on them but the guys at Shydas did turn me off that day, owner included.

I often wondered how consignment worked? Does the shop get a percentage or something?

I've used Shyda's several times recently. I purchased a Beretta 9mm and an AR-15. both were priced well and in stock. Needed help with choosing a 9mm the salesman was very helpful and patient. There is an evident attitude in one salesman. being that i have a low tolerance for rude people customers or sales people i try to avoid dealing with them. When i go to a gun shop in a good mood i like to leave with the same.

My last experience was with a fine gentleman named Jeff. I had been e-mailing Shydas looking for a particular gun. The last e-mail I got told me they had what I wanted and would hold it until closing Saturday night. Once I got there Sat. morning I found out this Jeff was the one I had been e-mailing. He was very polite and kept apologizing for how long the process was taking while on the phone with who ever says "OK" to the sale. During that time we had a good convo about many things to pass the time. After the sale was over he saw me out the door despite long lines at the counter.
