Some times I guess I just don't think.

I'm gonna have a talk with the old hero, she may have not even noticed I was carring .Like I said,it's pretty laid back and off the beaten trail. The PO. and general store is all in the same place, but I will be more aware.
Personally, I don't think it should be illegal anywhere...but it is, and there would be nothing she could do to stop any kind of trouble coming to you or her. That's a HUGE deal. Worse than carrying a loaded AR-15 into a kindergarden classroom for you kids show & tell, in the eyes of the gov. Not trying to rub it in or anything because you get it, but it's SO not worth the risk

Good to hear you don't have any issues anywhere else and everyone is pro gun, that's a good thing. I wish everywhere was like that.

Posting on a public forum telling us that you broke federal law probably isn't the best idea . . .

So let me ask this question because this is a little unclear to me; If it is illegal to carry into a post office (that is not my point here), how does that work when the post office of a small burg like this is part of the town general store/barber shop/airport/tire store/(hopefully you get my point here)store......

If the post office is just a part of the property - ie - USPS uses part of the building - and the post master/mistress (?) is the owner of the rest (or is even a different person) - is it still illegal to carry - oc or cc - into the privately owned building with part of it set aside as a post office (rented by USPS)????

Remember folks, one of our missions here is to help educate and inform people about gun rights and rules. The OP seems genuine and not a blatant law breaker. Constructive criticism is always golden!

Well, Camper, sometimes it is hard to educate people on the right thing to do. Also, by the way dman writes his posts, I would guess he is not excluded for that group.

OK, what part of “it is illegal to carry in a post office” are we having trouble with? When walking through the post office's front door, wherever it is located, is when you break the law.

I was in a general store in Sullivan County where the Post Office was part of the store (in the back). The thing is, the store also sold firearms and ammunition. Rifles, shotguns, handguns, you name it.

What happens in that case? lol

Are you telling me that when you went into the the post office they had the ARs next to the stamps? No, it was out side the post off, but in the same building. You would not be able to buy your friearm in that building then walk into the post office.

I am quite sure that you were not with me when I went into the little general store on the eastern shore of Virginia and bought a pack of twinkies, a liter bottle of coke, a sheet of stamps, a mailing envelope (the kind for documents etc. that has USPS on it), a pack of smokes, and whatever else - and by the way, the beer was in the fridge and the ammo was on the shelf behind the bait - AND, I didn't have to walk into the post office as it was all part of the same building (and the village name and zip code was on the front of the building). So why would you assume that the post office HAS to be in a separate part of the building when the one that I went to WAS NOT. No door separating it, all paid for at the same counter, and if I had a post office box, I would have walked over to the wall near the door and opened my box and got my mail.

There used to be a LOT of these "Mom and Pop store and post offices" all over PA and the rest of the US before the USPS started consolidating them into bigger and post office only buildings and there are still a few left here and there.

So I walked through the front door and it was the general store, the post office was against the back wall, no door, or room separating the two.....Why would "we" have trouble with not understanding the question which, by the way was not, is it legal to carry into a post office, the question was, can I carry into a store where the post office is part of the store, not separated by a door or in another room..........????? I have been in a few of these, please do not tell me that it CAN'T be that way.........
