It has been my experiance that when shooting from a bench, you can get by with a hard or ceepy trigger and still shoot good groups. When you try field positions such as offhand, kneeling, sitting or off a pole [which simulates a tree] a good trigger can improve your shooting by more than 100%. for field shooting I would rather have a rifle with a good trigger that shoots 2in groups than one that shoots 3/4 inch off the bench, but has a creepy or stiff trigger.
I think many people pay too much attention to grouping ability of hunting rifles and not enough to the shoot ability in field positions. |

I agree to a point. An extremely heavy trigger sucks..like my Savage Favorite..love that gun but that trigger is on my "A" list to fix..feels like 12 pounds.
I prefer a repeatable creep in a hunting rifle and understand the need in my assault....errr..civil defense rifle. My pistols..I prefer no creep at all. Even if it is a fairly heavy pull..I do not prefer creep. Just me.

Many guns can shoot 1 MOA or Sub MOA from a bench with bags and what not, most shooters have difficulty shooting 3-4 MOA without a bench. Kind of like the equivilant of owning a fast Corvette but your driving/shifting is so bad that you get smoked by Honda Civics.

A good trigger will break like a thin glass rod. "Tick".

Man, I don't hunt or ever want to, but I STILL work on my triggers until they can't get anymore of an easier trigger pull (while still keeping them safe). If a hard trigger makes range work difficult, it'd have to make any type of field work hard as all hell. You don't have a bench or any good support when away from the range, and the only thing that can fire the weapon has to be able to fire it where you aim it in less than ideal conditions. A 10 lb trigger might make the shooter pull to the right and end up wounding an animal. A good trigger is much much much more needed in a hunting/field rifle than a bench rifle if you look at it in terms of humanity.
