question regarding pen/knife gun

Would this be a handgun under pa regulations, or considered an AOW? what would be required to purchase one? I dont really know my way around nfa/class III etc...

I dont really plan on purchasing one, i am just curious about it.

While I can't say for 100% certain, I am fairly sure this is an AOW and subject to all NFA regulations.

Last I heard, ATF distinguished between AOW penguns that could fire while looking like pens, and regular Title I penguns that had to be unfolded into a gun shape before they would fire.

This may have changed, ATF feels quite free to change its collective mind based on the phases of the moon and whether Punxatawny Phil sees his shadow...

This is an item to be very careful with, a friend shot off his finger with one of these and the round came close to his wife before ending up in the upstairs bath tub. He got lucky when he found a great doctor at the ER to put his finger back together. For what it's worth...Mike45

It's not a AOW. It's a pistol under federal law. As it has to be folded into the "shape" of a pistol before it can be fired.

Back in '94, I saw some at Target World, or maybe Edelman's. They were .25 cal and had to be folded to look like a gun before they were fired. They were 100% legal, non-class III firearms at that time. They were selling for about $125.

These were considered pistols because they had a grip that was at an angle to the bore. since it had to be folded to fire, that made it a pistol

I think ATF made some changes to the rules on them, but i'm not sure how it affected guns already manufactured.
