More than one thousand murders committed in Baltimore in the past decade remain unsolved, and the percentage of closed cases has declined each of the past five years.
The Baltimore Examiner found that 43 percent of the two thousand, four-hundred and 79 homicides in Baltimore between 1998 and 2006 have not been solved. That's one thousand 65 homicides.
There were 931 convictions stemming from the one thousand, four hundred and 14 closed cases. Just 660 of those were sentenced to ten years or more in prison.
The Examiner also found that if the victim is black, police are 13 percent less likely to make an arrest than if the victim is white. Relatives of many victims told the newspaper that they don't think detectives have devoted enough time to their cases.

Baltimore's homicide rate closes in on last year's total
Baltimore City's murder rate is closing in on last year's total.
In 2005, there were 269 murders in Baltimore.
So far this year, there have been 256.
Overall... city numbers show violent crime is down five percent compared to last year.
I know that the anti's will twist the numbers in their favor, but hey....It looks like a good reason for law abiding people to arm themselves.
Hell, living halfway between DC and Baltimore was one of the reasons my wife relented and let me buy my pistol.
