Default Re: What do you take to the range with you?

I take the particular firearm that I want to practice shooting with, the ammunition for it, and ear and eye protection. Also a bag to carry everything.

I take everything I have and about 500 rounds of ammo above and beyond what I could possibly shoot. G21, S&W36, AK47. ShootN'See's, two pairs of eye gear, one clear, the other yellow. Some regular targets, some cardboard. I don't have a stapler and always wish I did. Box of ear plugs

Default Re: What do you take to the range with you?

Portable bench in case the range is busy, or I need to shoot in the field.
Portable target hanger.
Folding chair
Range box: Assortment of paper targets, assorted targ dots, balloons, Necco wafers, tacks, staples, staple gun, ear muffs, assortment of screwdrivers, hammer, auto mag loader for Ruger Hunter MkIII, bench rest, chronograph, spare parts, spotting scope w/ tripod. Cleaning rod if I'm really trying to maintain a tight group, gun oil. Lots of ammo.

Actually I need an additional range box.

Pending the gun a plastic tarp to catch brass.

lately I've been thinking of getting a van with a sliding window on the side and everything set up inside. A retired armored car would really fit the ticket!

This here shootin' iron.

The usual (standard) loadout: home-printed targets, stapler plus the stapler that actually works...that's the one left in the trunk, one more trip back to the car...earplugs, membership card, ammo & some type of optics for checking targets.

Deja vous...a couple of guys did something similar, except it was a hole drilled into the trunk lid of a Chevy Caprice.

Amen, brother, amen!

I can't count the times I've headed to the range thinking I "had everything for this gun" loaded in the bag that I'd need, only to realize when at the range the speedloaders for the revolver won't fit the danged bottom feeders.....aurgh!

I have three shooting bags that are for the Sig(s), the Browning(s), and the revolvers. The rifles don't get out that often, so I don't worry with those as much.

Bags normally have at a minimum:
Stapler and reloads for same
Cleaning kit for caliber
Squib rod
Bottle of gun oil
Targets
Pasters
Lotsa ammo
Gun of choice
Holster, gun belt, speedloaders
Waterless handwipes
Spare car key (don't laugh unless you've also locked your keys in the trunk...)
First aid kit
Advil (for the muscle aches from humping this stuff from the basement to the car to the range and back)

Subject to change (number of bags) with the number of new toys bought this year....(grin)

I have a container that has generic range stuff. stapler and staples. eye protection ear protection. target pasters, batteries, tools etc. then I have my bag with my bench rest stuff. another bag for pistol specific stuff. another bag for rifle, one for shotgun. My chronograph has it's own bag. Every time I go to the range I will take at least two bags. If I intend to burn a lot of pistol ammo I will grab a 3lb coffee can full of the correct pistol ammo for each. Or perhaps i will fill a 1 lb can of ammo for lighter sessions. Test loads are in annotated plastic boxes. The test ammo goes in the bag specific to that type of firearm. The range bag and bench rest bag usually stay in the back of my Trailblazer unless I need to make a run into NYS, then they all come out. I forgot I have other bags for blackpowder, deer hunting, and varmint hunting.

Primary Range Bag, containing ammo, holster, mags and pouches for the handgun I'm most frequently shooting, eye and ear protection, cleaning solution for the glasses, pasties, tape, tool kit, cleaning rod, mag brush, loading tools (Lulas, stripper clip tools, thumb tools), timer(s), first aid kit, targets, notebook, pens. This is also the bag I carry along if I'm shooting a match.

Range Box, containing tape, pastys, staple gun, matches, staples, full size screwdrivers, hand cleaner.

Gun Bags, containing other guns I intend to shoot.

Other Items in the Truck: USPSA targets, other targets, sand bags, rice sock, range finder, binos, foam pad (for dropping mags and not hitting concrete surface), bigger first aid kit.

Optional Items that may go along on any given day: Spotting scope, chrono, shooting mat, ammo cans with more ammo, ammo cans with mags, 5 gallon buckets with steel targets, clay pigeons, other ammo containers, brass container, playground cones (for drills), another bag with accessories for other guns.

I probably forgot to list some stuff. My current de facto range bag is a 4 door Tacoma.
