Default an LEO carry in other states?

I read a story today about an off duty camden LEO who got jumped and beat up in the Jetro parking lot yesterday before the Phillies home opener and someone commented that they hope he wasn't carrying. Another guys said LEO's can carry in all 50 states, but I am betting my house that this is not true. Especially going into New Jermany, I mean New Jersey.

What is the ruling?

HR 218 or as it is better known as; LEOSA (Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act) allows qualified officers to carry in all states.

Sorry about loosing your house.

My husband is a retired LEO from NJ. He can carry in all 50 states but NYC doesn't appreciate it so it stays REALLY concealed when he goes there.

You know I hear this all the time about NYC and NJ. And you know what, I've carried both places numerous times and never have had a hassle. Even talked to some cops while there (upper echelon and lower). Not once did I have a problem...I think its an urban legend...

Add DC to that list also, and NJ is still on the board line in ref to carring with issued HP ammo.

Never had an issue with DC either. As a matter of fact DC invites THOUSANDS of off duty cops to come spend a week there yearly. Which I am going to miss this year....

But what about the philly cop that was in the paper 3 or 4 years ago, who went over the WW bridge, and turned around because she had her sidearm on her. Port Authority pulled her over before she crossed and she explained why she made the illegal U-turn, state police were called in and they arrested her for carrying into NJ?

Good thing I didn't make the actual bet!

As has been said, LEOSA provides for cops to carry in all 50 states. Their super human powers combined with the need for their safety over and above the common citizen allows the government to dictate their special class of status.

I know it may sound like I'm bashing cops, but I'm not. While I'm glad that they can protect themselves in all 50 states, it pisses me off that I can't. I think that law is a particular line of BS.

Oh, sorry about loosing your house :-)

Could have been before LEOSA was enacted, which was in 2004.

Good point, it's ok if we get mugged or carjacked. {or worse}
