Fakity fake fake. The camera work and reaction shots are all unnatural. And he doesn't start bleeding until after he takes off the vest (because they clearly connected the squib to the vest).
But guns + rednecks + "hey watch this" = always fun! I watched it twice! (Love the guy who comes over and punches him after the shot)

I think it was Airsoft. The slide went back, but there was no recoil, flash, or smoke.
