Default OC in Target

I did a search and found some threads on Target World, but not on Target, so hopefully this isn't repeat information.

I just got a call from Jake from Asset Protection at Target (he's actually local to State College) regarding Target's policy on OC. I had sent a letter to the corporate office asking for an official policy (if any existed) and they forwarded that to him. This happened because my wife didn't want me to get kicked out of Target for carrying since it's one of her favorite stores. I figured I'd preempt that by getting an official policy.

He called me at my office and was very nice. He explained that Target's firearm policy is on a state-by-state basis, and he said in Pennsylvania OC is perfectly fine in Target stores. He said they have no problems with lawful carry in their stores. He even knew you didn't need a permit to OC (Philly notwithstanding).

I felt that was information worth sharing with the rest of you.

Good read. I was just in a target yesterday and it was my first OC experience in one of their stores. We don't have one that is less then about 30 minutes from us so I don't get there very often. I had no problems and actually saw lots of employees. Every one of them smiled and said hello to me. I don't know if they even noticed I was carrying or not.

Personally, I think it a bad idea to inquire about these policies preemptively.

You are engaging in a legal activity that should be "normal" and commonplace. Legal non the less.
Asking the policy ahead is essentially asking permission and will often solicit a NO answer, even incorrectly. Has happened to a few on here.

Just go about you business, normally. Chances are slim you'll have an issue. If you do, THEN run the inquiry up the chain.

I think Pa. Patriot got it right...but... no harm, no foul. Thanks for posting the information.

The man already stated his reason for asking ahead of time.

And other men stated their reasons for thinking it was not a great idea. What's your point?

True, but why bother asking permission to do something legal?

Why not ask their policy for carrying a cell phone into the store? That sounds absurd, doesn't it? The only difference is that one tool is for the first amendment and the other tool is for the second amendment.

Guns only have a stigma to them if we let them. It's an object, no more, no less. It's a legal object, too.

Yes, and I stated my reason for disagreeing with that course of action...

Ordinarily I feel it's better to ask forgiveness than permission, but I made a decision based upon my wife's concern. Right, wrong, or indifferent, sometimes I make sacrifices for the woman I love.

I'm merely pointing out that some of us believe (through experience) that you are less likely to get a no answer, and or get kicked out, if you had not asked.

Just another POV to consider.
