It seems that many folks think that a shot or two will stop any attacker they face. I continually hear about different incidents from my friends in LE, that tell me about the guys that hadn't heard they were supposed to throw in the towel after a handful of rounds. Tonight I found a well documented description of such an event.

FWIW, this is why I think that all of the duty caliber handguns suck equally well (9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP, .45GAP, .357SIG, .38Special, .357 Magnum), and capacity and shot placement are critical elements in your survival.

WOW. that's an intense story. I can't help but wonder where his backup was. Around here if you get pulled over especially at night there is always another officer sitting in his car behind the officer that issued the stop. I got pulled over for a light out above my license plate once and after he took my lic and reg another cop pulled up...i was a 20 year old pregnant lady! can't imagine why after seeing the beer there wasn't anyone else called.

So Glocks and .40's aren't magical, like the .45 isn't magical........

*cue the 1911ers who claim that one shot of .45ACP, anywhere in the body, will instantly kill a person*
![]() A very good story for those who plan to only fire a shot or two. One needs to plan to keep firing until a threat has ceased to be a threat, which may be 1, 2, 3, 10, or 22 rounds. Even the legendary 12-gauge doesn't fire a magic bullet... I recall reading a story a while ago about someone who was shot by an LEO with several (7 or 8 if my memory serves me right) shotgun rounds, and managed to run the better part of 100 yards.

+1 on the backup.
When I was in vo-tech we watched a video deteiling an incident with two oficers in a home who shot an invader just about as many times. Don't recall the exact number but the guy was alco maced, and beaten with batons. He asn't armed, but they shot him so many times one officer ran out of ammo and had to draw a small revolver from an ankle holster. He even took head shots (apparently not direct) and kept coming. He wasn't high on anything. Just really pissed off.

I observed a subject who self tested the theory of .45 ACP one shot kill. He survived for four hours.
I've seen another person who did the same thing with a .22 and shut down like a light switch. Bullets do strange things to people. Take the Miami FBI shootout. 9mm in the aorta of the first bad guy, and he shoots seven FBI agents, two were killed.

That's amazing, I never thought after 22 rounds that somebody could keep on going just going by his anger. I know I get pissed off alot and sometimes more often and greater than others but taking 22 rounds or 7 or 8 shotgun shells, plus indirect head shots and keep on going.... Wow, I think I might just have to start going for direct headshots after those 2 shots in COM dont work. Curious, is there any statistics showing how many times a person can get shot in the head with a big bullet (not .22's, im talking at least a 9mm and for my case a .357) and still be up for the fight?

But practicing headshots can't be a bad thing either.

Two ways to shut someone down who isn't gonna give in. Hit the CNS and turn off the lights...make them loose enough blood that their BP drops to the point that they pass out, then bleed out. Someone might take 1 hit and drop like a sack of rocks...someone might not. Plan to hammer the shit out of their COM, then start shooting them in the face if they keep on doing whatever required their being shot by you. IIRC, a former SFOD-D trainer teaches 4 to COM, and 2 to the head...as a direct result of how many people he's shot that kept fighting after 2 hits COM (5.56mm). The bad guy and how fast he falls dictates the number of rounds fired...nothing else should. This constant "double tap" practice and terminology needs to get deleted from people's brains...artificially limiting the number of rounds you put on a threat is a good way to loose the fight. And if you run out of rounds, I hope you're quick at getting your knife out.
