Default Handgun Ranges

I am looking to go and fire off some rounds for the first time out of my new 9MM and I seem to be suffering from a severe lack of handgun ranges in Venango County. Are there any alternatives to ranges aside from driving to the middle of nowhere and squeezing off a few rounds? Or is there the possiblility that I am overlooking a range?

Oil City. That's near to some coal mining areas, maybe? Do you guys have old strip mines out there? Mine strippings makes a great backstop to absorb firearms ammo. I'd be very careful about shooting out in the woods. All the woods belong to someone, and they're not going to want you shooting on their land. Plus, if the bullet travels, and hits someone or something, you can count on eventually getting caught.

The mine strippings is a little "iffy" due to the fact that usually there are people around and they usually will be there to do stuff like riding four-wheelers. They do not take too kindly to someone firing off bullets. But, then again, the advantage of going to the mine strippings is that anyone else you see there is tresspassing also.

Actually Oil CIty implies exactly what it states, Oil. No strip mines lol. Birthplace of the Oil Industry.

I love google. http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/cwp/v...a=480&q=161297
public ranges ran by the state. I can deal with the 6 round limit on my handgun as long as I can get familiar with it and adjust the sights.

Have you ever heard of the Oil City Izaak Walton League club; commonly called the Oil City Ikes?

We are located about 2-3 miles from downtown Oil City on Deep Hollow Road. We have covered 50 meter SMALLBORE rifle/pistol range and a 300 yard rifle range.

We do require a membership to shoot at the club, and currently it is about $50. If you are interested, let me know, and I will let you know how to join.
