'Sallright. It happens. I voted for WJC in '92....though I'd like to point out that I drove six hours from Delaware back to State College to vote for Dole in '96. (Of course, Dole was a better guy than GHWB, but that's neither here nor there...)

I can say with honesty that had I been confronted with this situation when I was at Dear Old State 10 years ago -- even if I had HAD a pistol -- I would N O T have been mentally ready for it. Honest assessment of where I was at that time. Don't know if I would have helped or hindered the situation (I'd like to think helped, but....)

Hope you don't mind me saying, but thats not really the stuff to be teaching your daughter to defend herself with. Most it's desgned for a marine to use in combat, not a woman to use in self defense. Most women are pysically incapable of performing those techniques against a larger male attacker. Also, i think many women have mental blocks on really physically doing someone harm with their bare hands and training is needed to overcome that

Personally, i'd look in your area for a krav maga school. While having it's roots in military combatives, the better schools over here have adapted it pretty well for civillian self defense and many do a good job with females. It's advantage over a traditonal martial art being that it's simplified so you can get good in the system in about 6 months as opposed to 6 years.

Next, get your daughter trained with a firearm.

I strongly encourage people, in the most sarcastic way possible, NOT to bring their guns into gun-free zones.

There is hope!
Last night at work (campus job) one of the more anti-gun females I work with told me that following the VT shootings and it makes her feel good that I carry. She even said she wished I had it at work! My response to that was, of course, "I can't do that though, campus is off limits, and I could be expelled." I was really shocked she said all this. Step 2: "hey wanna go to the range?"
