Default My Offical Mauser K98k Thread

My 1943 (byf) German K98k Mauser

Ignore my cat, who died.

Finish: Casey Tru Oil Gun Stock

Refinish:

* Heat treatment for removal of cosmo on all parts with an oven I made.
* Sanded the stock with about 4 different sand paper grits.
* Applied finish to stock in many applications, and buffed the stock between each application with fine steel wool.

I just bought a 98K! Still have to pick it up from my FFL. I agree the oven/heat method is best to remove cosmo: it does not warp the stock, thereby affecting the accuracy of the rifle. Nice job! Where did you get the sling? Did your gun come with the cleaning rod?

I'm sure that I got the sling from: http://www.ioinc.us/mm5/merchant.mvc but yoou may want to find a link to brownells, and look for one there first, because this place (PAFOA) has an affiliate deal with them so if you can find one you like from there you'll be doing the organization a favor.

You should see a link at the bottom of the page, and I had to buy a cleaning rod. I never use it, but it looks really cool on the gun.

iight...
