WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Police arrested a man near the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday after he drove up to one of the building's barricades with a rifle in his vehicle and told officers that he had a delivery for President Obama, a Senate spokesman said.

Sgt. Kimberly Schneider identified the man as Alfred Brock, 64, of Winnfield, Louisiana. She said Brock was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition.

Brock drove up to the north barricade at the Capitol late Tuesday afternoon, saying he had a delivery for the president, Schneider said.

After further questioning, he admitted he had a rifle in his truck. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing, she said.

A search of his truck turned up several rounds of ammunition, Schneider said. Police also checked the area around the barricade, but found nothing hazardous.

Threats against Obama have led to arrests in previous cases.

In one, federal prosecutors concluded that three people arrested with drugs and weapons in a suburban Denver, Colorado, motel posed a "true threat" to Obama during the Democratic National Convention.

In the second, a Florida man was charged with threatening bodily harm against the then-candidate in August. He has pleaded not guilty

While I have a few questions about this incident that have yet to be answered the main one is bolded. unregistered ammunition? Since when do we have registered ammo?

Well....I'm glad that the news is still worried about being accurate .

Maybe I missed the part where he threatened Obama? The registered rifle? ammo?

"Oh no there are a couple of rounds in his car!" (Seriously how many of you can say with 100% certainly that there isn't a .22 shell or even a casing in your car (since judging by the rest of the article a casing might become a round for all we know).

To split hairs about where the threat is IMO is just stupid. This fucking bumpkin is doing us no favors and we should not be looking for reasons to support him.

I agree. To drive up to the president of the united states dwellings with anything that even begin to appear to be a weapon... is a bit beyond stupid. Maybe this dude always has a rifle in his back window... but come on!

Couldn't agree more ... it's these type morons that are going to do more damage to our cause than anything else. Not one ounce of sense in this stupid asshat and I hope he goes bye bye for a long time

Same here, but I'm leaning very much with the other guys because when you're going to visit the president it's just good sense to not take a rifle with you.

Let's look at the slim facts we have.

1. Approached a baricaded enterance to the White House.

2. In posession of a rifle in the vehicle.

Now add the alleged comment of having a "delivery for the Po(s)tUS" and the fact that he was in DC with any type of firearm and there really isn't any question about whether or not he was in the wrong.

It amazes me how we will look to exhonerate anyone who does anything with a gun. Sure there are times that gun owners are wrongly prosecuted and we should stand behind them, but to act as though anyone with a gun is being treated like a criminal by jackbooted thugs is no different than Jesse friggin' Jackson screaming racism everytime a black guy stubs his toe on a white guy's foot.
