PSU PD will store firearms for students who live on campus as for just comming on to visit I dont know if they would, one would imagine though.
As for any other areas in the local I dont think there is anywhere that is posted as stated above that you can't carry. I go out quite frequently to the bars, more often than not to be the DD for my friends. I carry everytime I go out, esp during football season (though I normally busy on home game weekends with work).
As for you living situation and HD. I am very farmiliar with the Patton Twp and Ferguson Twp boys, they respond quick BUT those are HUGE complex's and I know I dont have every one of them memorized as to specific locaiton of every apt so there is possibally a delay there for ya.

Shotgun is your friend. Which load you use is a total craps shoot as you have read though here. I personally use the bird load but I also live in a townhouse (on the west side of town) and know I have small children on one side and a couple on the other side. I am VERY worried about over penatration in this circumstance (as you are).

I have been toying with the idea of a handgun caliber carbine for HD but I have not come up with the best solution yet.
How long untill the big 21? Have you found a good local shop where your going to drop your hard earned coin yet?

I've lived here damn near all my life with the exception of a couple of years quazi commuting to williamsport for school. The drugs are on the rise, we see them at work more and more often and after some conversaiton I've had with the local smokies its definatly becomeing more and more pronounced. There are about 100 things working against this town drug wise, Altoona being a big one, williamsport being another big one as well as the usual suspects of (philly, pitt, H-burgh, Ltown, and NYC)

Stay safe, hope I dont run into you at work.

Recently in my area there was a connected 3 house break in. 6 guys, 2 per house at the same time. From what I hear one family was even home at the time, it was late afternoon.

Before I could own my pistol, I kept and still keep my Mossberg 935 magnum loaded with 3" slug. I really dont care about what happens to my wall or tv etc. I care about stopping someone trying to kill me.

I now also have my S&W Sigma .40 on my hip with me at all times in the house. As soon as I get my yellow card back in the mail I'll have it with me everywhere possible.

My 21st comes in the last days of May. There are two local shops that I'll probably go to: Lion Country Supply and Riggle's Gap Gun Shop (where I got my SKS).

I'm assuming you're a paramedic or something of the sort, so yeah, hopefully we never have to come across each other while you're working!

It seems to me that the best method for when you're not at home would be to lock it in a gun vault so that burglars would have a hard time stealing it.
But what about at night? Keep it loaded and locked in a safe, or keep it available near your bed? I guess it also depends if you have children (or room-mates!) who aren't mature enough to trust with the gun.
And is anyone else afraid that a vault with electronic components (e.g., electronic keypad for entering the security code) may be fatally unreliable?
DH keeps his shotgun behind the bedroom door. Mine is in the lock-up (I mainly use it for hunting, not home defense. For home defense, I have a Taurus 4410 ("The Judge") that shoots both .45 LC and 410-gauge shotshells. I have 000 buckshot for the home defense rounds.

Of course, any bozo trying to break in would have to get through the 2 dogs, first.

I'm the lucky guy who gets to live 4 blocks from downtown
only good thing about my apartment is the stairs to come upstairs run right under my bed and the door outside (never locked) is really loud. The deadbolt is always locked, and the chain goes on most of the time when i'm in here.

Unless I had a SBS a shotgun wouldn't be practical up here (12x14 box)

And none of us back home go into Altoona at night unless carrying...everybody over 21

So many people for State College!!

It is a shame with "all" the crime here now.

I've got my 870 loaded up with 3" 00.

Hopefully, the shotgun itself will be enough of a deterrent, but if not I have a pretty clear shot at anything coming into my apartment via the front door.

If I had more risky shots due to the layout, like you, I would switch to #4 without hesitation.

Yes it is really a shame, i celebrate a little inside every time i hear about another big bust from the Centre County Drug Task-Force. I know, others will move in to take their place. Anyway all you can do is prepare, i firearms accessable in my bedroom. Although pure overkill in a home invasion i'll grab the PTR91 but first i gotta get some TAP ammo...

I should probably move to a Shotgun since i live in a townhouse. But im on a end unit and the walls between the units are very thick.

yeah Lex, I play the role of paramedic and you dont want to see me on your 21st! Even though there are a LOT of people who do.

What ever your decision does finally come down to just remember to use your head. Try to keep your phone in close reach so you can call 911 quickly and REMAIN ON THE LINE or leave the line open if you have to throw the phone down but DONT hang up. If you leave the line open everything that is audible over the phone will be recorded and can work to your advantage, or disadvantage. I'm good friends with a lot of the 911 tele-communicators here, they know their job and are very good at interpreting information even if your not saying something to them directly.

Stay safe, State College may seem like its getting worse but its still no where near pittsburgh or philly or harrisburg for that matter. Thank god!
