Pietta made 1858 Rem. New Army
.44 cap and ball. Got it a couple weeks ago, shoots like a dream. Or is that smokes like a cheesy dream sequence?

OH wow!!
A BB-Gun!==============
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”
~Samuel Adams
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."
~Thomas Jefferson, 1791

Re: Pietta made 1858 Rem. New Army
1858 Remingtons are among the better designs. The Colt designs had an open top with a mechanical joint, which wasn't as rigid as the 58 Remington.
If I'm not mistaken, the 1858 also has a quick-change feature associated with the cylinder.
You know to use overshot wadding or grease over the bullets, right? If not, your first chain-fire isn't far off.

My loads consist of 15-25 grains of pyrodex p .451 round balls, greased over, with a #10 cci cap igniting the charge. Yes, the cylinder is quick to change. Only takes a couple seconds to swap out.

Nice! Cap & ball guns are plenty of fun.
I have a CVA Navy '51 brass frame 44 that I try to get out once a year.
451-452" balls over 20-25gr of Pyrodex. ..cant remember cap #.
