Default vertical grip

if a vertical grip is installed on a rifle, does it become an AOW?

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

That is for a pistol. Then it becomes an AOW. Not sure why, how, who, where, when but it does.

as said above, NO.

only one type of gun with a buttstock on it can ever be an AOW, thats a 'combo gun" such as a varmint gun that has both a rifle barrel and a shotgun barrel, and the barrels have been cut to between 12" and 15"

a vertical grip on a rifle is fine.

AOW reasoning comes from the ATF determining from legal definitions of what is and isn't a pistol.
a rifle is a firearm with a buttstock intended to be fired from the shoulder.

A pistol is a firearm intended to be fired with one hand.

they brought up the AOW thing by saying that a pistol with a forward grip is no longer intended to be fired by one hand, but by 2, thus it no longer fits the definition of pistol, but fell in with the AOWs like gadget guns, cane guns, disguised guns, etc.

another wonder brought to you by the ATF and the Brady antigunners, they petitioned the ATF to have the tec9 with a forward grip banned, and ATF did the AOW determination.

Hth,
