Default Fake cop

My wife had a run-in with a little meely mouth jerk (described as barely 5' tall and skinny) at the one-lane bridge in our community. Although he saw my wife on the bridge before he got into the one-lane portion he hits the gas and goes onto the bridge. My wife stops and he jumps out of his car and goes to her window (cracked open) and starts yelling at her to back up and calling her a-hole and the like. She says, "no, you saw me coming, you should have waited, I'm not backing up. So he pulls out what my wife describes as a 2 inch badge with no numbers on it, puts it against the window and says "oh yeah, well I'm a cop, now are you gonna back up". Of course she says "you're a cop? so what?, I am not backing up. (mind you she has the minivan and a good 25 feet of one lne behind her). Finally other folks trying to get home from work show up behind my wife and an older gentleman does not give in to the little bully's taunting and asks to see the badge, which the little bully now denies having. Finally the older gentleman tells the little bully to just back up and let everyone by. The kicker is, when the guy backs up, he rips his fender off on the side of the bridge. In any event, another lady gets the little bully's license plate number and gives it to my wife (who wisely never left her vehicle and had her OC spray in hand).

My question is, practically, is it worthwhile to report this guy to the State Police, or are they likely to just listen, nod their head and say that there is nothing they can do? I just dont want his little bully (sounds like a mall ninja) doing this to other woman. Another question is had my wife been carrying (her permit form is already filled out and now I know she will file it) would it have been proper for her to have her pistol in hand, warn the little bully away from the car and then show her weapon if he refused? And I already told her the first thing she should have done was dialed 911.

HELL YES!

Impersonation of a Police Officer shouldn't be taken lightly by the public. Cops take this crap more seriously than they do murders and robberies. You should absolutely report this.

As for carrying. The spray should take care of this sort of incident. You should never draw your weapon unless you reasonably fear for your life. I wouldn't grab a gun unless he tried to open the door or was carrying a weapon himself.

Why bother?

You don't need the hassle, and the kid is probably already shitting himself.

You should definitely report this. There are people out there who've been assaulted, robbed, murdered by guys posing as cops like that. If nothing else comes of it, somebody from the PD will probably tell him they don't much like that sort of thing.

Personally, I would report him. We just had an incident in the local Giant Foods wherein a guy...older, I think was impersonating a cop. The kicker is he was doing it to a grandmother and her grandchild. What were HIS motives? I wouldn't have wanted to find out. He was caught on the store cameras and has since been arrested. If he's willing flash a fake badge, what else is he capable of?

Report his ass A.S.A.P.!!!!

Then videotape the hanging, so that others may learn from his mistakes.
