Default Ranges in the Pittsburgh Area?

Hey everybody.

I'm new here and new to shooting in general. Started shooting about two months ago, and now can't get enough of it. Problem is I can seem to find a good place to go. I started at Anthony Arms in West Mifflin, but due to price it's not really feasible to go there very often. I'm looking for somewhere I can shoot both pistol and a new rifle that that I haven't been able to shoot since I bought it two weeks ago. I've found a couple sportsmens clubs, but they all seem to be private with sponsorship required. Does anybody have any suggestions? Close to the South Hills would be nice, but not necessary. Thanks!!

Come out to the group shoot tomorrow.
It's at Pitcairn Monroeville Sprotsmen's Club.
http://forum.pafoa.org/shoots-range-...oove-back.html (PAFOA GROUP SHOOT #23 "GRoPA got his groove back.")

For $5 you can meet a bunch of forum members, shoot, and get to see the club in person.

There is no sponsorship requirement, by the way.

Hi,

I am a newbie also, but after much research, I joined the Pitcarin-Monroeville Sportsman's Club, in North Versailles. It's a bit of a trip but well worth it. No need for a sponsor; I just showed up for a meeting, and left a member.

I also shoot at A&S Indoor in Youngwood. It's also a bit of a trip, but well worth the drive. Less expensive than Anthony, and you can shoot your own ammo. The people are very nice, and helpful.

Most of the clubs I have seen in the South Hills area, in my opinion, aren't as nice as these two even after you factor in the drive times.

I will now look into my crystal ball, and predict at least 5 more posts like the one above.

It really is a nice club.
$100 for first year($40 initiation fee), and $60/year after that.

Thanks guys! I'll have to run out there this afternoon to check it out. It's not too bad of a drive for me either. About 20 mins or so. Thanks again!

You may want to come to the group shoot tomorrow instead.

I can't guarantee that anyone will be available there to show you around without making arrangements first.

There's a gate just inside the entrance, so you can't just drive through by yourself, and I don't know if the caretaker will be available.(he should be, but I don't know that he can give "tours")

If tomorrow doesn't work for you, ask here or in the group shoot thread, and maybe a member can meet you to show you around. Lots of us are members there.
