LTCF PICS vs Hand Gun Purchase PICS

Hi,

Just curious...I assume there is a PICS check when you apply for a LTCF. If you purchase a hand gun from a dealer and show your LTCF, why must they run another PICS check. Does having a LTCF not validate that you have passed the check?

As far as i understand it is, PICS is PICS. no difference.

I guess because PICS is designed to be run at the time of purchase, and the fact that you passed PICS when your license was issued does not mean you will pass PICS today. There's no way that the FFL can know for sure that you didn't get flagged in PICS yesterday and are buying up guns before you turn in your LTCF.

Not necessarily. There are certain offenses that will permit you to still purchase and possess firearms, yet prohibit you from obtaining a LTCF.

True, but if the system works, you'll be required to turn them all in very soon, and if you've suddenly gone completely bad, and have decided to make a few quick bucks by becoming a straw purchaser before they catch up with you, you'll have a whole new set of problems.

I believe that using a valid LTCF as a substitute for PICS when purchasing is already 'on the list' of desired legislation. Its (hopefully) just a matter of timing and priority.
