Default Re: What type of gun owner are you?

For many years I have built and sold various gun collections, usually to finance another hobby. I've only held onto one gun that would be a Dan Wesson Pistol pack.
My latest collection are 98% shooters with 2 safe queens.
I'm on the edge of the fence when it comes to safe guns though. A few years ago I was at the range and an older gent came up and was shooting all of his commemorative guns. IMHO these type are made solely for collecting. I feel the same about some of the older Winchesters, Marlins, English Doubles etc. Some are / were meant to shoot some were not.

Everyone we buy is a keeper! Plus, our daughters are already arguing about who gets what when the hubby and I kick the bucket.

Is selling a gun an option?
The only gun I ever sold is one that I shouldn't have bought in the first place. It was a Bryco 9mm. I know, you don't have to tell me, I found out for myself. I sold it back to the dealer I bought it from for about half of what I paid for it, (no big loss there), then he ended up junking it.
FWIW, I have a Jennings J-22 that I've never had a bit of trouble with, that's why I figured I couldn't go too wrong on the 9mm. Maybe I just got lucky with the .22
I gave a .22 rifle to my son. Other than that I've not been able to convince myself that getting rid of a gun is even worth considering.

Financially, unless you need the money firearms (unless collectibles) depreciate too much as soon as you put the first round through it. So it makes no sense to sell it unless its a lemon. I know i wont sell anything, granted most of my collection is C&R's, but the thought of getting only 50% back is enough to make me cry.

He he he, call me stupid but your right about depreciation. I only got 25% back of what I paid for a lemon Walther P-22. That is after I beg them dude to take it back.

On the other hand, them C&R items got up in price quickly. Especially them Russian Makarov and SKS, which I have been eyeing lately, he he hehe..

I'm a keeper. The only time I ever traded was a few months ago when I decided my Beretta 950 .25 acp was a useless gun, so I traded it almost even-up for a Beretta 21A .22, almost the same gun, except the 21A has double action and is cheap to plink.

I also gave the better one of my Ruger 10/22s (stainless, never fired) and a Swiss K31 to my son.

I guess I'm just leasing mine. Here today..get 'em all setup just right and then on to the next one. I make sure there is a lag time between buying new and selling the old..usually atleast 2 weeks notice.

Ive only sold one gun and that was a lake .22 bolt action i traded it on my ruger 10/22. i will never sell any of my others. except maybe my wifes taurus pt 138 its been at Taurus more than we have had it. bought in january and we had it a total of 9 days, its at Taurus now. Luckily my Dad thinks the same he has all but one gun he ever bought a ruger 9mm and he sold it to buy his Glock 17.

I'm a trader.
I have had one of about everything and two or three of many.
There are few that I kick myself for selling like the S&W 686 I had and also the Model 60 .38 Spl.
I also should have bought a Bushmaster M-4 a long time ago and I should have gotten a GP-100 last year when I had money.

Lately, I have been thinking about getting another AR but I just don't have the capital to pull it off yet. And even if I do, I need ammo and mags. Still need a reloading press too and if I get an AR I will need .223 dies to go along with it.

Anyhow, I am a trader. But anymore I mostly only go with used guns. First, they are generally cheaper. Second, every new gun I buy has something wrong with it. But I generally don't get screwed when I buy used and under some circumstances I can even try them first.
