I got this 38 revolver from my dad for christmas. My dad lives in NY and I live in PA. My dad bought the gun numerous (8+) yeras ago at a gun show in PA while he was currently living in PA. According to him he never registered the gun upon purchase. My first question..is that possible? My next question is what I have to do to get this revolver registered in my name. I know when a gun is handed down from father to son or grandfather to father to son or whatever no paperwork is necessary but I wish to obtain a license to carry this revolver. Can anybody help me out here?

He gave it to me while he still live in PA. In that case can I just simply apply for a license to carry? |

However, all interstate handgun transfers (except bequest/intestate secession) must go through an FFL in the recipients state per federal law. Your father can deliver the handgun to the FFL via common carrier or in person or by having a NY FFL send through the mail or common carrier. The sales database proves no such thing. It only contains sales executed on a form SP4-113, which may not be who currently owns it.

My bad, should have said "It is on record that he was the original purchaser". Slip of the tongue, won't happen again, lol.
